This sale features the antebellum home, built by Issac Newberry between 1840 and 1846 in historic Oak Hill, Alabama.  Newberry was a prominent planter, businessman and civic leader. This home has Montgomery roots - having been the home of Montgomery surgeon, Dr. Bonner Englehardt's great, great, grandfather.  Now known  as 'Magnolia Hall',  it was originally named  "CedarCrest"  by it's builder, Mr. Newberry, because of the magnificent cedar trees that surround the estate. This home was placed on the Alabama Register of Landmarks and Heritage on April 21, 1891.

The home started out as a classic Greek Revival cottage with four rooms and a wide central hallway.  In the mid-1880's, Mr. Newberry added the home's large central gable, a rear wing, and side and rear porches. A portion of the attic space was also converted into two bedrooms at that time. The home, as it stands now, has been totally rennovated and updated in keeping with the orginal intent of the home. The house is currently for sale.

For those of you wishing to come on Sunday and spend the night - there are two motel accommodations in Camden, Alabama.  Those are:  The Southern Inn, phone number (334)- 682-4148.  There is an adjacent restaurant at this location.  The other motel is directly across the street:  it is American Inn Camden - their phone number is (334) 682- 4555.  Both have a rate of $54.00 a night plus tax.  We have stayed at the Southern Inn and even though not the Ritz, it is clean and comfortable.  Also, there is a nice restaurant  (Miss Kitty's) in Camden - it is only open at lunch but the food is home cooked and served cafeteria style. This would be a nice place to take a break on Monday from your shopping the sale.

Other information you will need:  There will be signs at the entrance to Magnolia Drive off of Highway 10W.  Turn down that gravel/dirt road and proceed to the gate leading to the property. Don't panic when you see a bunch of old trailers - these are trailers belonging to hunters who lease that stretch of land.  The gate will be open  late Sunday evening.  We will have areas on the grounds taped off for parking. There is plenty of parking once inside the gate on either side of the road.  Park responsibly so that everyone has a way of parking.  Please do not park beyond the taped off areas.  Also, the drive leading to the back/side of the house is closed to customers. This is where the workers will need to park.  We will have a few outside items for sale in that area so you are requested not to go past the caution tape in those areas.

A sign-up sheet will be posted on the front door late Sunday afternoon/evening..  As always, if you sign the list, you are required to stay on the property.  You cannot sign the list and leave.  Those of you who are spending the night in Camden please remember that you cannot sign the sign-up sheet and then go to the motel.  You would have to remain on the property overnight in order to secure your place in line.Your name will be removed by the next person on the list and you would have to re-sign the list when you return the next morning.  This is only fair to everyone coming to the sale.  **I have had several people ask about bathrooms - since the closest gas station is in Oak Hill, anyone needing to go to the rest rooms - notify a couple of people already at the sale - tell them you are going to go into Camden and will return within 30-40 minutes.  By doing this, you are preserving your place in line. There is a Hardee's just as you come into town.
