The Family Story
The matriarch of the family, Madame Harriet W. was born in Grand Coulee, Washington, a small city with a population of just over 1,000 people. Grand Coulee is known for its famous dam, the Grand Coulee Dam, which Harriet’s father helped to build.
Harriet was one of seven children born to parents John and Annie Muldoon, who emigrated from Ireland during the Depression Era. The family eventually moved to Oregon where Harriet and her four sisters and two brothers attended Umatilla High School.
Harriet’s career started in Seattle where she worked for Boeing. While visiting her sister in southern California one year, Harriet was offered a job at Autonetics in Anaheim. This prompted Harriet’s move to California, and it was here that Harriet met her future husband, John. The two were married in April 1964 and three years later, moved to Corona, where they raised two sons: Marty, who now resides in Boise, Idaho, and Matthew, who lives in Yorba Linda. Harriet retired after working professionally for more than 30 years. After the two retired, one of their greatest joys was caring for their only grandson, Brian, who lovingly called them “Nanny and Poppy.” Although John preceded her death, the two thoroughly enjoyed their 36 years together.
A Corona resident for more than 47 years, Harriet became well known in the local antique community. Her passion for acquiring antiques and collectibles of all kinds was what brought her the most happiness. Every week for more than 25 years, Harriet’s routine included circling the ads in newspapers and Pennysavers so she could plan her weekly hunt for her beloved “treasures.” Whether through estate sales, garage sales, or local antique stores, Harriet amassed so many items that her hobby grew into a business. The things she could bear to part with were sold at two prominent local antique retail shops, while those she treasured the most remained on display in her home. She spent many hours and took great care in ironing linens, polishing silver, and making her wares pretty and ready for display.
In addition to her passion for collecting, she also loved to cook and sew. Her fudge was a favorite amongst family members. In fact, she used to make Bourbon Balls every year for her work buddies at Boeing, a treat her co-workers waited for every year with much anticipation. Music brought great joy to her heart. She enjoyed listening to the Andrew Sisters, Perry Cuomo, Tony Bennett, the 5th Dimension and Whitney Houston. She was an avid pet lover and thoroughly enjoyed her white Siamese cat named "Sugar" and of course we can’t forget her little terrier mix, "Sophie."
Madame Harriet W., who lived a very active and fulfilling life into her mid 70s, is sorely missed by family, friends and all who were privileged to know her. She could always bring out a smile, even from strangers, according to her son Marty. “She was a people person with a heart of gold."
The family wishes to extend a warm welcome to all, to visit their home during the days of the sale.
