Selling the Palm Beach Estate of Frank Butler II
Frank Butler was a jet-setter who collected fine Asian antiques. He was a self-taught specialist of ancient Egypt.
Born in Oak Brook, Ill., Mr. Butler was known for his philanthropic work and his love of entertaining at his Spanish revival-style mansion in Palm Beach, Fla., which was designed by architect Addison Mizner and built in 1925.
His family is prominent in Chicago and Palm Beach. His father was an aviator, industrialist and developer who founded Butler Aviation and developed the Village of Oak Brook — originally the Butler family farm — and the Oak Brook Polo Club in suburban Chicago. At one time, the Butlers owned 35 Butler Paper companies throughout the United States. His mother was socialite Marjorie von Stresenreuter. Butlers fortune was valued at more than $100 million in 1986.
