Just a visit to this home is worth one's while. It was built by Mandel and Daisy Lowenstine and completed in 1929. There are about 8,500 square feet of living space. The home was based on a revival of colonial architecture just as John D. Rockefeller was restoring Williamsburg in Virginia. The Chicago architecture firm of Olsen and Urbain copied many of the features of the Carter's Grove plantation down the road from the town of Williamsburg.
The current owners are downsizing and opening their home to the public and dealers for the sale of many items that are not going with them, antique, vintage and modern: adult and children's furniture (indoor and outdoor pieces; outdoor pieces come with sunbrella cushions), mirrors, lamps (a number of miniature lamps), wall decor, china including a large collection of blue and white (Flow Blue, Blue Willow, Canton, Delft, et cetera), metalware (silver and brass) and andirons, glassware (including a large collection of Fostoria American pattern), linens and clothing (vintage hats, furs, dresses, shoes, et cetera), books, jewelry, postcards (Santas, Valentines, etc.), hand tools, walking sticks, parasols (Royal Doulton umbrella stand) and Christmas decor (including a band of silvered metal angels, weighing over thirty pounds each - great for a stairway at holiday time).
