You have never seen this much history in one place! Three rooms of one of the oldest homes in Lake Charles. Located on the lake, had never been brought into the 20th century! They were full and used for storage since the 1860s. Yes, the 1860s!
A treasure trove of historic books dating back to 1828 with the vast majority all being in the 1800s with great emphasis on the Civil War, Medical, Exploration, Government and Law, period maps, receipts, correspondence; railroad, French, agriculture and travel. Most of these books are considered “Rare” and many are considered “lost” books, out of print. Included are rare newspapers, “The New Orleans Times” from the Civil War Period, which are difficult to find for the “Southern View”. These are a true find because what we see mostly are “Philadelphia” and Northern View newspapers because the New Orleans newspapers are generally lost to mold, mildew or hurricanes. There is an unbelievable collection of bound editions of Harper’s Weekly that chronicle life before, during & after the Civil War with great sought-after engravings by Winslow Homer and other noted artists. Also, complete collections of several years in the 1800s from the New York Times that are hard bound. We have noted books by the well collected authority on the Civil War by Lossing and famous Texan, Yoakum books.
There is something for everyone who wants to own a piece of history. We have 1800s and early 1900-1920s magazines, post cards and photographs.
A great collection of early shutters, doors, windows, Louisiana period furniture, trunks, tin items and more.
If you want to own a piece of history, don’t miss this sale! We will be glad to see you again and for any further information, please contact Frances Fitz-Gerald between 1:00 and 5:00 at 337.540.1223. Hope to see you there!
