A Bit of Dayton History

Estate of Nationally acclaimed local artist Richard (Dick) Black, who drew "Smokey the Bear" and created "Mr. Clean" for Proctor & Gamble.

PLEASE NOTE:  Mr. Black's art, and the Smokey the Bear wooden statue, WILL NOT BE SOLD during this sale.  However, there will be an upcoming Art Sale in October.   Please watch for advertisements & emails in the near future.

Dick Black built this charming cottage in 1959.  This became his Art Studio, his Home, and where he and his wife raised their family. He enjoyed the early morning hours the best for his painting. He described the setting as bucolic, because of its beautiful countryside setting. Who knew these surroundings would be the inspiration for such amazing works of art, destined to be forever remembered as a part of Dayton history.  He was the primary illustrator for almost ALL the major corporations nationally and locally, including NCR, PROCTOR & GAMBLE, GM, FRIGIDAIRE, TOP VALUE STAMPS, and many more..... The recipient of many awards, the cover of the Saturday Evening Post, Ladies Home Journal, and so many more, this amazingly talented artist, husband, and father truly loved this home.
