A little family history
Treon Estate Sale
My Father (Harold Treon), Mother (Margurite) and Uncle (Norman) Collected items from the
1940’s until their deaths in the late 1990’s and 2000.
My Father Harold was stationed in the South Pacific both during and after WWII. He collected
items from Hong Kong and the China mainland as well as Tokyo and the Philippine Islands. He
bought many of the furnishings from George Zee in Hong Kong and from Philippine craftsman.
Some of the carvings were brought out of the south pacific during his return flights to the USA
Navy bases. Most of the Asian Jadeite and soapstone carvings were collected this way. Of
particular interest is the Philippine Coconut grater which was used for processing coconuts. It is
from the early 1900’s…Many of the Mahogany and Teak carvings were also dated to 1910-20.
The newest being early 40’s
Some additional items of interest are the traditional Kobe and Large hand painted silk screen
with Brass bird holders. The rice plates 1930’s and the lacquer ware, some as old as the late
1800’s. were bought during the Japanese surrender in Hong Kong Harbor.
My Mother Marguerite M Treon gained her Masters in Fine Art from the University Of New
Mexico. She studied in New York City at the NY art Students League and in Kansas City at the
Otis art institute. She also studied at the Guggenheim and had gained scholarships from Kean
College in NJ. She had showings in NJ, NY and in California in the 1980s and 90’s
My uncle Norman spent time in Europe during WWII and after and collected many items from
France. Some of the art work was his. He also collected American Indian artifacts with my
father. We had a Great Uncle that owned a ranch in California/ Nevada and they found many
items there. These were believed to be from the Ute tribe. They also collected from Southern
New Mexico at the White sands missile range. (Apache) Much of the classic American things
were from Norman’s home in Los Angeles CA
