Question of the month

January 2012

How do I know if we have enough stuff (or the right kind of stuff) for an estate sale?

This is a concern shared by many. No estate is too big, of course, but many wonder if their estate is big enough or good enough to bother with an estate sale. The short answer is "Yes, probably so."

In days gone by, estate sales may have been more common among the the wealthy or well-connected. Today, more families find themselves responsible for liquidating lifetime accumulations of parents or grandparents. In general, average Americans now own more things and, in turn, have smaller families. Since each member of the family also has more things, they are less likely to need or have room for all the estate items. As long as the estate includes most of the person's belongings and has a good variety of sellable items, Family Tree Estate Sales can conduct a successful and profitable sale.

Even though your loved one's house wasn't on acreage behind iron gates, the estate can still be more than your family can handle alone. Emotions and memories can prolong the sorting and organizing process and make it more difficult for families to set prices in line with the current market. Unless someone in your family or circle of friends has experience and expertise evaluating and selling personal property, you should consider inviting an estate sale provider to take a look before deciding to do it yourself.

Family Tree Estate Sales does not set a monetary minimum for sales; however, we are not able to accept every sale due to scheduling, distance, etc. We gladly review and evaluate your estate, then advise whether or not our services are right for you. If not, we happily refer you to other providers who may better meet your needs.

We welcome your inquiries. You have nothing to lose!
