The Belle Isle Aquarium is the only all volunteer run run aquarium in the country. The Aquarium was designed by Albert Kahn and opened in 1904. After 101 years of continuous operation, the Aquarium was closed on April 3, 2005. Thanks to the Belle Isle Conservancy, the Belle Isle Aquarium has reopened on day per week. Admission to the Aquarium is free. Currently the Acquarium's operational expenses are supported solely upon donations. The Belle-Isle Conservancy-Belle Isle Aquarium representatives will collect a $ 5.00 entrance fee per person to enter this historical residential estate . The Hartt Estate Sales will also contribute a portion of the profits from the sale of the household contents towards a significant donation to support the Belle Isle Aquarium as a Corporate Sponsor.
