LOT 017 - Raymond Averill Porter (1883 - 1949) Bronze Plaque. Porter taught at the Massachusetts College of Art and Design.He exhibited at the Art Institute of Chicago, 1904 and the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Art, 1913, 1916. He was a member of Boston Sculptors Society and Cambridge Art Institution. Monuments by him are in Boston at the State House and Armory, as well as in Somerville, Mass. He also did three medallions for the World War I plaques in the rotunda of Gloucester City Hall, Gloucester, Mass. Each medallion represents a branch of the armed service: a gunner, a biplane and a sailor. Only the sailor medallion is signed: PORTERThere are four large bronze plaques of names and the three medallions (each about 4" in diameter) are found along the bottom of each plaque -- four instances of each medallion, twelve medallions in all.More of his work can also be viewed at President Tyler Memorial, Richmond, VA; Statue, Rutland, VT; Victory Memorial., Salem, MA; Memorial, Commonwealth
