Jewelry: This month it’s Modernist, including a multi-diamond 18k yellow gold ring created by famed New York jewelers Hammerman Brothers. From the House of Gubelin, Swiss purveyors of luxury watches and jewelry since 1854, we offer an abstract heart-shaped brooch accented with sparkling diamonds. Fanciful seahorses highlighted by two brilliant-cut diamonds frame an opal set in a 14k yellow gold gent’s ring. Elegant mid-century earrings featuring diamonds set in 14k white gold provide a glittering touch to any well-dressed evening out.
Watches: Watches: We are also pleased to present fine watches from Cartier, Hermes and Tudor.
Jade: Featuring an exceptional selection of fine jade, agate and other stone carvings from a longtime San Francisco estate. The collection comprises seventeen lots of Ming and Qing dynasties auspicious pendants, toggles, animal carvings and archer’s rings.
Fine Art: We lead off our art offerings this month with George Henry Harlow (British, 1786-1819) and his Portrait of the Duchess of Gordon, oil on canvas. For the animal lovers, we have three paintings by Adolf Sehring (Russian/American, 1930-2015) Cheetahs, Leopards and Elephant, Richard de Treville, William Barr, Pierre Cornu, Frederick Judd Waugh, Donald Henry Floyd, Brian Blood, Edward Brodney, Drawing by Edward Borein, Our Prints section features works by Adolph Gottlieb (American, 1903-1974), Steve Kaufman (American, b. 1960) and Tiefeng Jiang (Chinese, b. 1938)
Chinese Antiques: Featuring a selection of works of art objects and furnishings from "Dragon House" Antiques of San Francisco. This collection includes a large pair of amethyst guardian lions, a massive cloisonné enamel tripod censer decorated with an elephant theme, a pair of unique painted altar vases carved with phoenixes and dragons, various Tibetan silver items, and several decorated folding screens. Also of note is a summer gauze ‘Dragon Robe" of imperial lineage, sourced from a private collection which was purchased from the renowned Hong Kong Chinese antiques dealer Teresa Coleman Fine Arts.
Japanese Antiques: Featuring various metalwares such as hand mirrors and vases, several Meiji period porcelain vases, and a variety of folding screens including a Tosa school six-panel screen dated to the Edo period (18th/19th century. A popular piece with the Bay Area crowd is a watercolor of a Monterey coastal landscape by the renowned local artist Chiura Obata who skillfully captured California’s beautiful landscapes through his travels.
Sterling Silver: Our February auction features over thirty lots of silver including flatware, dishes and bowls by Tiffany & Co. along with some unique items including an Elizabeth II silver gentleman's flask with Dionysus mask also by Tiffany & Co., a German 800 standard silver centerpiece frame in the Art Nouveau taste and a Danish sterling tea strainer and bottle opener by Georg Jensen. The auction also includes pieces from Wallace, Gorham and more.
Glass: Our glass offering this month includes pieces from Daum Nancy and Lalique in addition to Venetian and Sevres examples.
Decorative Arts: Featuring an array of decorative arts. There is something for everyone this month. We have bronze sculptures and candlesticks, Dirk van Erp, stemware, African items and an interesting Jennings Chief Tic Tac Toe 10 cent slot machine.
Furniture: Our February auction features a pair of Mid-century Giovanni Banci side chairs and from Gerald McCabe, a maple entertainment center and a maple and smoke glass desk. We also have Chippendale mahogany chairs and a late 18th century New England comb back Windsor armchair.
