Big Easy Estate Sales is thrilled to announce an estate sale in the art-filled home of noted New Orleans businessman and preservationist, Dorian M. Bennett and his late wife, Kell Bennett. Dorian Bennett, founder of a highly successful real estate firm affiliated with Sotheby’s International Realty, has specialized in historic properties for nearly 50 years and has been honored for the restoration of his Faubourg Marigny office as well as his home at “The Bend of Bourbon,” on Pauger Street. The Boutin House, a Creole cottage built in 1825 and once home to the son of Louisiana’s first American governor, William C. C. Claiborne, has been home to Dorian and Kell for 30 years. Old world New Orleans greets you in the center hall of this historic property, filled with a lifelong collection of art and antiques Dorian and Kell have acquired through the decades. The home consists of a unique mix of modern art, sculptures and ceramics, and Louisiana and southern material culture. They were great supporters of local artists and were fond of Julia Street galleries – Jean Bragg, Arthur Roger, Jonathan Ferrara, and many others around New Orleans, as well as galleries across the country.

If anyone has met Dorian, you’re an immediate fan. Stories and tales of his life keeps you focused, though (in his home), you drift off in awe of the floor to ceiling collection of art. He speaks fondly of his longtime friendship with Tennessee Williams, in a New Orleans that once was mystical and like a dream – at least it feels as such while listening to Dorian’s stories of past times. Dorian keeps the magic alive and is truly a beloved gem in the Crescent City.

It has been an honor to work with Dorian, his daughter, Delia and our incredible team to make this sale available to the New Orleans community. It takes a village and we are happy to be a part of this transition into the next stage of Dorian’s life. Join us December 12-13 for a unique opportunity to shop a beloved lifelong personal collection of art and objects from the home of Dorian and Kell Bennett.

  3. We’re in the process of pricing this week, something that takes a lot of time and concentration for a sale like this one. Please withhold phone calls, texts and e-mails with regards to prices, condition, etc. Everyone will have a fair opportunity to enter this sale. We do not provide online sales and shipping and we do not allow previews, pre-sales and holds. Read through the Terms and Conditions for full details on how our sales work.
