Pop-Up Antique Shop ~ The Dowling Mansion ~ Estate Sale

Join us in Hasbrouck Heights for a Pop-Up Antique Shop!  This sale will feature exquisite pieces from the historic Dowling Mansion of Bay Ridge, Brooklyn.

Our client's Mom, Catherine, inherited the mansion in 1983 upon the passing of it's owner, Mr. George Kateb. Catherine, an immigrant from Ireland, was Mr. Kateb's private nurse. She not only provided care for him at home, but also on the many world travels they embarked on together. She became a companion at parties and events, many of which were held at the very home she'd later inherit. The house itself was decorated with the intent of entertaining regularly. It provided many other jobs to staff that lived and worked there as well. George left his entire estate to Catherine including the house, all of the furnishings, and even a diamond ring he had bought for her.  Catherine held on to the ring until her retirement as it had tremendous sentimental value. It was later sold at Sotheby’s New York in 2015 for an undisclosed amount.

Mr. Kateb's wealth came from a women’s clothing business that he started in the garment district after arriving in the US from Syria. He understood what it was like for Catherine to start out in a new country far away from home and family, thereby opening his family to her. Their relationship was quite remarkable. George changed Catherine's life as a young immigrant for the better!
