German Stoneware Steins including Albert Thewalt: A grouping of two early 20th-century German stoneware steins. Albert Thewalt half liter stein, #469, with a hand painted figural scene and text that reads, “Des Lebens Sonnenschein ist trinken, fröhlichsein (Drink and be merry for that’s the joy of life).” A German stein with impressed #1935 to the underside and a hand decorated print under glaze landscape scene. Both appear with pewter lids.

The front of the decanter depicts a standing woman carrying a parasol among flower-like motifs and sun rays. The design is similar to Karl Palda’s Art Deco enameled glassware.
