This large and lovely two story home contains collections belonging to grandparents and parents, and you will find Harden furniture in several of the rooms. Harden, located in Norfolk, Conn., grows its own cherry trees and bases designs on traditional and timeless styles. The quality is in a class by itself. The home is also for sale.
A highlight of the sale is the documented desk that once was aboard the J. B. Newland three-mast schooner. Capt. Christopher Naleid (owner's great grandfather) hauled lumber from Canada to the US. The last load of the year was always Christmas trees just before Lake Michigan froze over.
You will find a pool table with fitted table tennis (ping pong) top, a king size four poster bed, a full size canopy bed, and matching furnishings. Also, there are pieces of furniture purported to have come from the Lockwood-Mathews Mansion in Norwalk, Conn. LeGrand Lockwood built the mansion in 1864-1868, but lived in it only a short time due to financial downfall. Today, it is a historic site and museum.
Antique planes and other tools, a giant key collection, German steins, Oneida pewter mugs, plates, and bowls (mugs in boxes), books, several andiron sets, and clocks round out the assemblage.....vintage costume jewelry, fabulous vintage 1920s and 1950s evening wear and two kimonos, teddies, and other lingerie, jewelry and furs, vintage cigarette cases and compacts, pipes and even cigars, debonair walking sticks, and decorative accessories that will please all decorating styles abound.
Much of the sale is composed of items from long-term storage from two previous generations of savers.
La Reine by Wallace sterling silver flatware and miscellaneous serving pieces are just in time for holiday entertaining. Books range from the 1800s to 1930s to more recent novels and coffee table books.....There are at least 11 clocks, and the garage is filled with useful things everyone needs.
