PERSONAL UPDATE: Many of you have know my mother for years. She used to come to visit me from Tennessee especially when I was conducting an estate sale. She LOVED coming - she loved seeing everyone - and participating in the fun of my sales. Over the recent years, her health has deteriorated - at 94 years old, she struggled to continue in the pace that she so loved. Last night, Sept, 26, mother finally had to give up. She passed away, age 94, after experiencing the last few years in constant pain, health issues, and the determination that she would remain in her home - which she did. Many of you over the last few years have continually asked me at each of my sales - "Linda, how is your mother"- to which I would respond and would assure each of you that I gave her every one of your inquiries and good wishes. And I did and she loved hearing that! I could name names but I won't in fear of forgetting some.
I fortunately was able to be with her for a week about 10 days ago - I talked with her again this past Monday evening. She passed away last night (Wednesday, Sept. 26) around 6:00 - true to herself - still at home, where she wanted to be -NO! Insisted to be! Mother was a strong person - a product of the Depression era - where you did what you needed to do to survive - to thrive - to care for your families - and to not complain. She was a trooper - probably one of the first women's libbers - and even though she had a sharp tongue, she was loved and admired by many - not to mention the least of those - ME - her daughter. I want to thank all of you who have constantly - at each of my sales - inquired about her - and I thank you from the bottom of my heart. It is a sad time for my family. The sale will go on as scheduled - I will leave immediately after the sale to begin the process of taking care of her estate. This weekend- she will be laid to rest beside my father who passed away in 1981. A memorial service will be held in a few weeks for her. Meanwhile, we must go on - she would have insisted on it.
I felt I needed to let you who constantly asked about her know of her demise. She was the beginning of my love of antiques - she taught me so much about furniture - she was the rock of our family - the glue that held us together -and my brother and I will miss her tremendously. Thank you all for your caring for her and always remembering her to me. You have no idea how much that has been appreciated.
