About Judge James E. Langner:
A devoted husband, father, and grandfather, he was born Oct. 2, 1929, in Birmingham. A standout player at Woodlawn High School, he received a football scholarship to The University of Alabama, and received his law degree there in 1954. He served in the United States Air Force as staff judge advocate for two years, practiced law in Birmingham for several years, then was appointed judge of the Birmingham Municipal Court in 1963. In 1970, he was appointed supervisor of the magistrates for the Alaska Supreme Court and later served as project officer for the Federal Judicial Center in Washington, D.C.
Judge Langner was member of Alabama, American, and federal bar associations, president of the Alabama Municipal Judges Association, and Academy of Fellows of the Institute of Court Management.
