Description & Details
The owner is downsizing and his collections from a lifetime of teaching can't be squeezed into a smaller space. Dr. Winfred Wright and his late wife Dorothy were lifelong Francophiles, living in France, teaching French and establishing a strong foreign language program at Harding. They lived abroad for many years and the house is full of delights from their time there, including a magnificent carved walnut imported French buffet, and a library packed with French-language books and literature.
There are beds, dressers, living room furniture, cabinets, painted chests, mirrors and curved side chairs. There are cupboards full of collectible glassware and china, including Blue Willow. The dining room set is 1970 Drexel brand, made in North Carolina, in excellent condition. Souvenirs from other countries in include carved wood animals, boxes and bowls; blown glass, blue glass and crystal; Nativity scenes; Hummel lamps; brass and bronze collectibles and porcelain from Japan. There is a signed Leo Ward bluebird with its original box and a lovely antique wall clock. Also for sale are gold leaf nesting tables, blue Whitehall Indiana glasses, golden-edged ruby goblets, vintage vinyl records, cherubs and angels, and a large set of Harding plates. The kitchen is full of quality cookware, coffee preparation machines, fine china, day-to-day china -- and an amusing grouping of novelty mugs.
We've seen nice estates, and we've seen extensive estates, but we've never seen so much French culture in a Searcy home.
We will consider selling early the large items -- the French buffet and the Yamaha piano. We would consider a bid on large lots of French books.
