Our Big Kitchen is a beacon of compassion and generosity, originating from a poignant moment in Sydney, Australia, in February 2005. The organization was founded by Rabbi Dr. Dovid Slavin and Laya Slavin, inspired by their community coming together to help a friend who had become extremely ill. They saw a need and rose to the challenge, creating a place where volunteers could come together to cook meals for families facing food insecurity.
In March 2020, as the world was grappling with the Covid pandemic, Yossi and Chaya Segelman felt a deep sense of responsibility to bring
the ethos of Our Big Kitchen to Los Angeles. They started small, packing snack boxes in their garage, but their determination and passion inspired others to join their cause. Slowly but surely, with the support of OBKLA's Advisory Council Founding Chair Avi Hager, they built Our Big Kitchen Los Angeles into a bustling hub of activity where thousands of volunteers have come together to cook and distribute meals to those in need.
Today, Our Big Kitchen Los Angeles is much more than just a kitchen.
It's a community of people who believe in making a difference and want
to bring joy, comfort, and nourishment to those who need it most. It's a place where volunteers find a sense of purpose and fulfillment, knowing they are making a positive impact in the world. It's a testament to the power of the human spirit.
At OBKLA, we believe that food has the power to bring people together, breaking down barriers and uniting us as one community. That's why we're so grateful to have a diverse group of supporters – from generous sponsors to the hard-working staff and volunteers to dedicated community members and an independent Board of Directors – all working together to make OBKLA a reality.
Comprised of experts from the business world, legal profession, and community organizations, our Board serves as a cornerstone of our organization, providing guidance and oversight to ensure that OBKLA continues to make a meaningful impact on those in need. With their expertise and commitment, we can ensure that OBKLA remains a thriving, effective, community-based organization for years to

Spartan citizens, men or women, are the pioneers of two very important philosophies:1) The ultimate faith in the human body as a symbol of the most beautiful creation by God.2) Human freedom. Of course, those ideas arose much earlier in time. However, they gained a bigger momentum during the Ancient Spartans. As a small nation in their region, the Spartan's were always under attack by bigger nations.Hence, they took serious measures to shape and mold their youth from a very early age to live a free and beautiful life ? one that they believed was their birthright. These fundamentals have motivated Artist Hovik Kochinian to create a series of artworks with his unique style dediGertrude Abercrombie (1909-1977) "Cat" - Medium: oil on board - Signed lower right and dated 1954. Measures - 8" x 6" (framed) Floated under museum glass. From a Private collection, Chicago, Illinois, circa 1970s . By descent to the present owner Abercrombie famously said ?It is always myself that I paint? and, even in her still lifepaintings and empty rooms she is present. The repertoire of personal objects that recurin her paintings come to stand in for the artist herself. She adopted the owl and the cat, familiars of the witch, for compositions in which she wanted to emphasize those roles.Although she freely changed the color; she always had a number of cats in her household, and identified with them deeply (when she was expecting her daughter Dinah, she said shecould imagine giving birth to a cat, but not a human); and the barren tree with low cloudsalmost serving a dual function as foliage, as well as the eerie path leading nowhere is ameaningful and repeatedly used setting.Elmer Bischoff (1916-1991) "Row Boats" - Medium: oil on canvas. Elmer Nelson Bischoff was a visual artist in the San Francisco Bay Area. Bischoff, along with Richard Diebenkorn and David Park, was part of the post-World War II generation of artists who started as abstract painters and found their way back tofigurative art. Bischoff's quiet and lyrical paintings were serious in a different way from the painting which was being taken seriously at the time; and which saw the rise of Abstract expressionism. While distinct from expressionist art that came from Europe, art of the Bay Area Figurative Movement displays the immediacy and warmth that one sees in abstract expressionist painting. After the war, back in San Francisco, Bischoff found himLorenzo Ghiglieri (1931-2020) "New Powerful Exchange" - Medium: bronze - Signed lower center.
