Dad met mom in North Carolina where they grew up, when she was just a little girl.  Then he saw her many years later and she was all grown up and he said she was the most beautiful woman he’d ever seen and that he didn’t know if he’d be lucky enough to have her as his wife…well he was!  Dad was in the US Navy for 20 years and even fought in the war in Normandy.  He was sentimental and was never afraid to cry especially when he was telling you how much he loved my mother.  Mom was a short and cute little southern lady that had the accent to prove it!  She loved to refer to herself as a homemaker and she did it better than anybody I’ve ever known!  She was orphaned at 2 years old and always wanted that family she never had. Dad always had freshly starched and pressed lily-white underwear and Mom even ironed all of our bed sheets.  As for me everyday when I’d get home from school I’d have a brand new dress that she made for me.  Then Dad made his first sale and brought it home so excited to show mom, they never looked back and started doing the swap meet on Santa Fe at the old drive-in theatre in Long Beach, they also did the Rose Bowl, Orange Coast College and Vets Stadium.  They loved old things and finding those treasures on Friday and Saturday mornings.  They’d take off in different directions anxious to meet back home to show the other one what they found that day.  However while they loved the stuff they collected, I think what they loved the most was meeting  new people and helping others.  When they opened their shop: “Mc Kee’s Closet” on Pacific Ave. in Long Beach, mom started to make lots of friends in the neighborhood especially older folks.  The shop was filled with them daily cause they’d all come not to buy anything but just to visit and mom would make them lunch everyday, all of them.  Mom befriended so many of them and she was also known to go to their homes and totally furnish it for them with the treasures she found never taking a dime but telling them that the Lord loved them and so did she!  It was her way of being able to give to people that were the age her parents would have been.  They were sweet and generous people who didn’t care if they made a dime after working all day long cause they just loved being together.  Well Dad has gone to be with mom and I find comfort knowing they are finally together again.  They will be greatly missed.  So cause they were collectors for over 50 years…this is a sale you don’t wanna miss!  Whatever you get I hope you'll treasure it as much as they did.
