Client, Ted Poyser, was only the second owner
of this classic Spanish stucco house built in the '20s!
Ted, born in Derbyshire, England, studied fine
arts in Manchester, London and Paris. He became Vice
President and Creative Director for London-based
Gaynor & Ducas. When he moved to the U.S. and settled
in Los Angeles, he formed his own ad agency
Advertising and Design Counsellors.
Ted was one of the original "Mad Men"! He designed
logos, displays and packaging for clients such as
Capitol Records, Mattel, Schick, Club Med, Cart Blanche.
He was named President of the Art Directors of
Los Angeles (ADLA) in the early '60's. He was a
member of the committee for the original
Hollywood Walk of Fame. He also had his own
gallery in Beverly Hills. Ted also worked
many years with aerospace giants such as
Mcdonnell Douglas, Lockheed and Boeing and
was very active personally in the Louis
Leakey Foundation.
House is filled with mid-century furniture
and furnishings acquired from early in Ted's career
in the 1950s-1960s with pieces by Paul McCobb,
George Nelson, Dux, Herman Miller, Sligh-Lowry,
Joel Edwards pottery, and numerous examples of Ted's
mid-century oils and sketches as well as other artists,
Ted's original easel, sculptor's tools, drafting equipment,
fountain pens, and even vintage never-used charcoal pencils
still in their original boxes!
There's a nice selection English ceramics,
antiques from Derbyshire, England, quality copper pots
and a yard/garage chock full of vintage hand and power tools,
vintage electronics, books, records and CDs, and so much more!
