MANDEVILLE CANYON ESTATE SALE by MELROSE TREASURES ESTATE SALES

A Remarkable Los Angeles Estate — The Collection of Dr. William Burke and Yvonne Brathwaite Burke

Melrose Treasures Estate Sales is honored to present an extraordinary collection from the longtime residence of two prominent figures in Los Angeles history: Dr. William “Bill” Burke, founder of the Los Angeles Marathon, and his wife, the Honorable Yvonne Brathwaite Burke.

Dr. Burke founded the Los Angeles Marathon in 1986, inspired by the success of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games, where he served as tennis commissioner.

Yvonne Brathwaite Burke made history as the first African American woman elected to the California State Assembly in 1966 and the first African American woman elected to the United States Congress from California in 1972. She subsequently served as a Los Angeles County supervisor and as vice chair of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee.

Together, the Burkes played important roles in the political, cultural, and sporting history of Los Angeles.

This remarkable estate includes personal memorabilia associated with their careers and friendships, including 1984 Olympic torches carried by the couple, Los Angeles Marathon memorabilia, political and congressional collectibles, signed photographs, and memorabilia associated with legendary boxing champion Muhammad Ali.

Beyond these historic pieces, the residence contains an impressive assortment of fine art, designer clothing and accessories, jewelry, antiques, furnishings, decorative arts, and collectibles.

A rare opportunity to explore a collection reflecting decades of Los Angeles history.
