FAMILY HISTORY
The late patriarchs and matriarchs are from a town near the Irish County of Tipperary. " Tipperary was one of the first parts of Ireland to be shired during the 13th century following the Norman invasion of Ireland.Tipperary is sometimes referred to as the "Premier County", a description attributed toThomas Davis, Editor of The Nation newspaper in the 1840s as a tribute to the nationalistic feeling in Tipperary and said that "where Tipperary leads, Ireland follows". Tipperary was the subject of the famous song "It's a Long Way to Tipperary" written by Jack Judge, whose grandparents came from the county." (Wikipedia)
The Vikings who set up camp in Dublin were known for their foundness of drinking ale, their "water for life" which was at the time much more safer than drinking the local water that was often contaminated by the latrine pits. The Vikings certainly left their indelible mark on the ancestors of this Irish clan, who established a drinking social pub some 400 years ago that had remained in the family up until a decade or so ago when it was sold. The pub was known to everyone in town, therefore the need for a street sign on the road leading to the pub was non existent. A family member from California some years ago wanted to visit the pub and asked locals for directions which humourously amounted to the local saying , you must travel so many meters from a tree and rock, pass a pasture of cows and a few turns around a pond and voila you are there. When the locals were asked why they did not have a street sign? The reply, why do we need a street sign for directions, everyone in town knows the location of the old pub and do not need directions as to how to get there.
If you have never visited Ireland before, you will be surprised with the sincere friendliness and hospitality of the people of Ireland. A tough brood of people made from solid stock that will rise to any occassion to help a friend or someone in need. A welcoming spirit that is genuine and warm.
The matriarch and patriarch of this family are sorely missed by family, friends and all who were honored to know them. The family wishes to extend to all, a warm Irish welcome and invitation to visit their home during the days of the sale this weekend.
