Description & Details
Former resident was architect Robert Mathews who was
a vice president with Welton Becket Architectural Associates,
the architectural and engineering firm responsible for the
$68-million restoration of Sacramento's 100-year-old Capitol
building in 1982. Mathews was Welton Becket's point man on
the massive project and the sale features a significant archive of
interior and exterior renderings, drawings, correspondence,
photographs from the California State Archive, reports, memorabilia
from the 1982 opening gala of the Capitol, miscellaneous ephemera that
includes drawings, exquisite original renderings of light fixtures fabricated
especially for the building plus loads of interesting architectural ephemera
such as vintage photos, records, correspondence, reports, drawings, graphics
and records from other Welton Becket's building projects including airport
and Greyhound bus terminals.
Home furnishings include a superb chrome and glass Milo Baughman D.I.A. dining
table with glass leaf and six chrome-framed upholstered chairs. There're
also a complementary '70s chrome and brass etagere and console table,
a pair of cool upholstered '70s lounge chairs, WJ Sloane sofa, a classic thick
glass coffee table that really rocks and a black 5' B.K. Settergren baby grand piano.
Sale boasts cloisonné pieces, jade plants, Ginori china, porcelain figurines, plates,
collectible tea cup sets, dishes, vintage perfume bottles, beautiful wine glasses
and other glassware, monkey wood bowls and platters, kitchen ware and small
appliances.
Walls are filled with an eclectic array of signed and unsigned original oils, water-
colors, prints and poster art, and a striking hand-embroidered Japanese wedding
kimono adorning one entire wall.
There are five racks of contemporary women's clothes with labels from Alberto
Makali, Chico's, AnnTaylor, Harari and Citron and some fine men's suits including
two 1940s men's silk smoking robes as well. Sale also includes books, records
(including vintage classical and operatic 78s), an original old Sonora Victrola that
really works. Also a Magnavox credenza with working tube radio, and so much more.
