Lorraine Shemesh (American, b. 1949). 'Spots' Oil on canvas, signed, titled, and dated in black felt-tip pen on the stretcher bar on verso, framed. 86 x 50 in. (167 x 127cm) 88 x 52 in. (169 x 132 cm/frame). Lorraine Shemesh (Born 1949) is active/lives in New York. Lorraine Shemesh is known for Super real figure-genre, abstraction. Having earned a reputation for contemporary realism, especially figurative works of subjects in and around swimming pools, Lorraine Shemish turned to gestural, abstract painting in the mid 1990s after seeing an exhibition of Jackson Pollock's work at New York's Museum of Modern Art. After this change in approach, her figural depictions are still recognizable, but they are abstracted and devoid of narrative meaning.
