Description & Details

1970 Pontiac LeMans Sport convertible.  $16,000

Here’s a really rare car, content wise.  It is NOT powered by the 350 2-barrel engine that 99.5% of all these cars were originally equipped with.  It has the 330 horsepower, 10.0:1 compression, #16 small valve cylinder head, Quadrajet equipped, 400 cubic inch Pontiac engine.  HOLY CRAP!  Yeah, I know, there were probably only about ten of this car ever built like this.

Also, it is loaded with factory AC, power windows, bucket seats, console, floor shift THM400, quick ratio steering box, power steering, disc brakes, etc.  It’s so freakin’ original that even the factory radio knobs are still intact.  The top frame is excellent, but I have removed what was left of the old top.

Included with the car are all the brand new, still in the boxes, convertible top components needed to install the top: new white top, new factory correct big glass 1 piece rear window, all the top padding pieces, and the well, located behind the rear seat.  Please see photos.

The car features 1970 Sandalwood interior.  What a great color that year.  Brand new fully assembled door panels also go with the car, as does new in the box Sandalwood carpeting   I removed and replaced the aftermarket aluminum trim from the door panels and installed the factory correct stainless steel pieces.

Also included with the car are brand new “D” port ram air 3 exhaust manifolds, and ram air 3 style exhaust pipes.  Wheel wise the car had regular old nice looking Pontiac hubcaps on 14-inch black steel wheels, there are seven total hubcaps, but if the buyer so choses we will include 4 brand new, never installed P245/60R14 BFGoodrich raised white letter tires, and gorgeous 14 x 7 Pontiac Rally 2 wheels with brand new stainless trim rings.  It’s your choice.  For extra money you can have all of them.  Again, please see the photos.

Rust-wise the car is about 99% rust free.  The trunk floor looks fine.  There is slight bubbling around the rear wheel opening.  SLIGHT!  The car has a tiny amount of Southern Cal Los Angeles rust, not horrible, disgusting New Jersey/Chicago rust.  Apparently, the engine was just rebuilt before I bought it.  I have operated it only about 5 miles since buying it just before Covid started around March of 2020.  It drove just fine.

This car needs a lot, but it is probably the very best remaining example of this car in unrestored condition for sale anywhere on earth in 2026.  I have only seen two of them this century, and both were 350 2-barrel cars (of course).  It’s not 1987 anymore, people.  The days of seeing old convertibles every few blocks are long gone.  The previous owner died with this car still at the repair shop so it is not currently registered to me.  If you are out of state there should be no problem.  Just fill out a form or 2 at your local Auto club office or DMV.  In California there might be fines/fees/penalties/forms to fill out/certified letters to mail out, etc. before you can register it again.  That’s just my guess.

It sat at the shop since about 1999 when I discovered it and I finally took possession of it 20 years later.  The rear end was removed when the photos were taken.  A potential buyer was going to install a Ford 9-inch differential in it, so we removed the Pontiac rear to take dimensions etc.  He never bought it.  Jerk!  Anyhoooo, by the time you read this ad everything should be back together, rear end wise.

The car was repainted the current boring color, but the original color visible on the inner doors is code 45 Palisade green.  What a really cool color.  Probably less than 1% of 1970 Pontiacs were painted that color.  What a shame.  It’s such a nice shade.

This car should present no real “issues” like on a rusty, incomplete, damaged East Coast rust-bomb piece of crud car.  Just restore what is there, do the top, spray it with new paint, do a little routine maintenance, and clean the heck out of everything.  You should be cruising by this summer.

If you are in LA and near Woodland Hills, feel free to come on over and examine it up and down to your heart’s content with all the codes, and stampings, and dates, and letters, and what have you.
