Description & Details
Welcome to the estate of the former Lee Lorenz. Lorenz was a cartoonist and gate keeper at the New Yorker. He was cartoon editor for over 40 years, and introduced unconventional illustrators like Raz Chast and Jack Ziegler while publishing droll covers and some $1800 cartoons in the New Yorker.
Lorenz was not only a great cartoonist, he had a true eye for collecting. Anything Tramp art, to Outsider art to Folk art. A fine selection of Early American furniture (no repros in this sale!). Bookcases packed full or everything from Art Books, reference books, to illustrated books.
The folk art collection includes several antique hand hooked rugs, crewel rugs, button quilts and handmade quilts. Several Folk Art paintings including a listed Canadian artist, Joe Norris.
A table full of Tramp art...lamps, boxes, clock, mirrors and frames
Outsider art....fantastic Coke art, mousetrap art, sculptures and some furniture
A gorgeous Early American grandfather clock (needs work), a pair of early CT Windsor chairs with original paint. A pristine dinning table in the D/R Dimes style made by the New England Historical Collection. A set of 6 hand painted arrow back chairs. 2 beautiful cupboards and several other trunks and a fantastic writing chair. Also found is a chair by Josef Hoffman.
Braided rugs, some still new in packaging from the VT Country store. Cookware and early Ironstone china.
A great collection of authentic African artifacts, including a super cool beaded Policeman.
We don't get sales like this very often....even I am seeing things I've never seen before as they are ONE OF A KIND.
We can't wait to open the doors to this incredible sale.
