Savvy Downsizing & Estate Sales
Description & Details
Savvy is pleased to host the first of two sale weekends for Dr. Ysaye Barnwell, former member of the renowned African American a cappella group Sweet Honey in the Rock, beginning this Friday and running through Sunday.
Dr. Barnwell is also a master teacher and choral clinician specializing in African American cultural performance, as well as a composer with an extensive body of work in choral, dance, film, and theater productions.
This first weekend will feature a curated selection from her multi-generational, rare, and distinctive book collection, with a particular emphasis on Black Americana, civil rights, and poetry and music. The collection includes numerous signed works by notable Black authors, as well as books signed by Dr. Barnwell.
The sale will also include a variety of percussion instruments—especially shekere—along with music production equipment, albums, and sheet music.
This weekend’s sale will take place in the home’s English basement. Space is limited, and timed entry will be enforced for browsing and purchasing books and records. Shoppers may hold up to 10 books at a time while making selections. We ask that items not be set aside or piled for extended review. Savvy reserves the right to refuse entry or sales to anyone who does not follow posted or verbal guidelines or who behaves disrespectfully toward staff or other patrons.
During the first weekend, all items will be at full price. Discounts will take effect starting the second weekend (May 14 – 17) of the Barnwell sale, when clothing, jewelry, art, and décor will be available.
