ASIAN DOWRY CHEST –
Hand-made with wrought iron hardware, an Asian dowry chest would make a nice coffee table or blanket chest. The finish is excellent with lovely worn patina. Solid ash hardwood, the corners have hand-cut dovetail joints. A traditional Korean design that has been made for centuries. Size is 30" long, 16" wide and 16" tall including the feet underneath.
SAVORONLA CHAIRS- A pair of "Savonarola" chairs from 1875 show the famous design from Renaissance Florence, inspired by classical Roman design. Richly carved with heads, they are named after the famous and controversial firebrand monk reformer of the day. These historic chairs measure 23" wide, 20" deep and 33" tall. The seat height is 18" from the floor.
SIDEBOARD/BOOKCASE - This traditional European Country style sideboard, credenza, bookcase or china cabinet has a rich deep brown shaded finish in excellent condition. Bold scale and heavy hardware are imposing on this vintage furniture from about 55-60 years ago. Crafted of fine grained oak, the upper section is removable. Size is 8'1" long, 22" deep, 6'5" tall and the base cabinet is 30" tall.
ROSEWOOD DESK - Originally an 1840's Victorian melodeon or early reed organ, this antique was remodeled into a fascinating desk about 75 years ago. The original matched rosewood case has a flat top that flips open, revealing tiny compartments and drawers, plus 2 "secret" compartments over the pull-out cherry writing surface. Four original legs were hand-carved of pine. The gleaming finish is excellent on all sides. Measurements are 56" long, 27" deep, 34" tall and the writing area is 28" above the floor.
THRONE CHAIRS - A pair of carved solid cherrywood throne, hall or dining chairs dates from the late Victorian period, about 1900. The finish is very fine with warm antique patina, old velvety velour upholstery is serviceable but shows wear. Springs are comfortable and frames are strong on this antique American furniture. Crafted for a Chicago fraternal lodge, the shell crest is especially beautiful. Dimensions are 29" wide, 31" deep, 6' tall and seats are 20" high.
SOFA - Beautifully carved of solid mahogany with flame grain panels, this late Empire to early Victorian period sofa dates from the 1840's. The exquisite hand-carved detailing in the crest is especially lovely. Newly upholstered everywhere including the back. The frame is solid and very usable and has an excellent gleaming finish with beautiful antique patina. Gracefully curved, this nostalgic American parlor furniture measures 7' long, 28" deep, 40" tall and the seat is 18" high.
DINING TABLE - A genuine Victorian era solid oak and ash square dining table extends with 6- 12" leaves. Expertly crafted about 1900, this American antique furniture has a superb rich brown finish. The 5 legs are deeply turned and the four outer legs are fluted. All six leaves match and fit well on this American antique. Size closed is 42" square, 30" tall, legroom is 26" high, and length with all 6 leaves in place is 9' 6" total.
CHAIRS - A lovely pair of curved French-style armchairs has lavish carved and pierced fruitwood with a pair of lovebirds at the crest. Older European fabric is deeply tufted on the backs, removable cushions have zippers, and there is little wear and fading. The finish is very fine on gracefully curving frames that are strong and completely solid. American vintage furniture from about 1930, this exquisite pair is very wide and comfortable. Measurements are 36" wide, 29" deep, 31 1/2" tall and seats are 18" high.
LAMP TABLE - An elegant lamp or end table has an inlaid marquetry top in satinwood, mahogany and walnut. The graceful base is carved and pierced, and the finish is excellent. This American antique furniture from about 1925 measures 19" square and 28 1/2" tall.
DRESSER - An authentic Victorian period dresser or chest of drawers was hand-crafted about 1850. Walnut with beautifully matched mahogany drawer fronts, the finish is excellent with a few mars for "character." Drawers are hand-dovetailed, have chamfered bottoms and original wooden knobs on threaded wooden screws. Two upper "handkerchief" drawers have keys for handles. On the rough sawn back, square nails are visible. American antique furniture, dimensions are 44" wide, 19" deep and 44" tall.
TRIPLE ARMOIRE - A spectacular "Bombe" or convex shaped triple armoire has inlaid marquetry design. The satiny finish on matched walnut burl is very fine with beautiful antique patina and character - there are the usual small shrinkage separations and minor mars plus the typical irregularities of burl. Brasses are original, drawers have solid oak sides with hand-cut dovetails. Expertly crafted in northern Italy about 1910, this is dramatic and bold scale furniture. The original mirror has lots of antique character. Measurements are 7' 2" wide, 23" deep and 7' 7" tall.
Additional items include silver sets, area rugs, mirrors, lighting, accessories, etc.
