William Bils [1872-1944] was a German-born landscape painter who settled in Brooklyn, NY. Bils‰Ûª training is unknown but he may have been trained in Paris, living in Drancy, Paris and in his native Germany. His work was influenced by the DÌ_sseldorf school and Barbizon school of painting which could indicate that he comes from Dusseldorf.
Bils appears in Brooklyn newspapers as a renter of rooms in his home, seven bedrooms, near Prospect Park, Brooklyn at 628 Bergen Street in 1911 and 1912. Prospect Park, most probably due to its proximity became the artist‰Ûªs prime subject for his art work. Biography:
"Hiroshi Yoshida was a leading figure in the 'shin hanga' (or new print) movement. He worked primarily as a painter until his late forties when he became fascinated with woodblock printing. After working with the Watanabe print shop for several years, Yoshida decided to fund his own workshop. Unlike ukiyo-e artists, he was intimately involved in all parts of the printmaking process. He designed the key blocks, chose the colors for the prints, and supervised the printers. In some cases, he even helped to carve the printing blocks. This was unusual, considering the traditional division of labor Junichiro Sekino (Japanese 1914-1988) Woodblock Print Castle in Snow Description: Artist signed in pencil and with artist seal lower right.

Junichiro Sekino, a painter, graphic designer and a woodblock* print maker was one of the noted artists of the Sosaku Hanga* movement, an important current of Japanese art.

Sekino was stylistically and technically diverse: he easily switched from figurative to abstract art, from black and white compositions to colourful expression. He was also flexible with subjects. Sekino sometimes resorted to mixing Western and Japanese techniques in his works.

He grew up in Aomori City alongside Shiko Munakata, the future 'Japanese Picasso', studying printmaking and oil painting. 1936 brought him a Bunten award for his etching*, awarded by the government. In 1939 he moved to the capital, where he came across the Sosaku Hanga movHiroshige II (Japanese 1826-1869) Woodblock Print Description: Condition: Toned, rubbed, soiled, stained with paper restorations.
