Colonel Jack Dibble jr (1917-2012). A graduate of West Point in 1940. As a lieutenant in 1944 he landed at Utah Beach during the Normandy landing and was a tank destroyer battalion commander under General Patton's 3 rd Army and his unit was credited with breaking through the German siege in early 1945 to rescue the American forces surrounded at Bastogne. Later his unit was the first to reach and liberate Mauthausen Concentration Camp. After the war he transferred from armor to army aviation and became the oldest officer to ever become a paratrooper and also learned to fly both jets and helicopters. During the Vietnam War he was Deputy Commander of the famous 1 st Aviation Brigade, aka US Air Calvary, in Danang, Vietnam and was responsible for 4500 aircraft and 20,000 men. The Air Cavalry was the tip of the spear during the Vietnam War and after his 30 years of service he retired honorably in 1970. Although he passed away 10 years ago at age 95 his personal property has only recently been settled and made available for Liquidation.
