Description & Details
Welcome to Criticalglass's 10th auction and first of 2025! This is arguably the highest quality auction from Criticalglass! There are over 180 pieces including many incredible museum-quality examples. Some of the best color pieces ever made are featured, especially from the masters at Stevens & Williams - a cobalt over Rainbow vase with optical effect, a Joshua Hodgetts engraved vase in ruby/clear/citron, a 3 color hock wine using the tiniest cameo I've ever seen in cobalt/cinnamon/citron, a jar in amethyst over gold, a champagne flute in turquoise over gold, and several other multi-color pieces! Every rare pattern under the sun is featured including Meriden's Byzantine, Hawkes' Lattice & Rosettes, J. Hoare's Wheat, Egginton's Calvé, Hawkes' Nautilus, Libbey's Snow Crystal, Libbey Isabella, Libbey's Grand Prize, Libbey's Columbia, Libbey's Kensington, and Libbey's Marcella. In fact, there is a lot of incredible Libbey in this auction - a Libbey Isabella punch bowl, an unparalleled Grand Prize pitcher, a Snow Crystal 7" plate, an unusual Libbey match holder/striker, and a one of a kind Libbey/Anderson bowl to name a few! Engraving is another theme in this sale - not only featuring the aforementioned Joshua Hodgets colored vase, but also a goblet by William Fritsche, a heavy, rock crystal decanter engraved by John Orchard, some incredible cameo work, a Hawkes vase engraved by William Morse - widely considered the greatest American engraver, and a one-of-a-kind Sinclaire bowl with silver threads and engraved heart-shaped tusks! Many silver mounted pieces, unusual shapes, large pieces, small pieces, all colors and everything in between in this top-tier sale. A truly wide-variety of the highest quality cut glass items are offered in this sale! These fine-quality, extraordinary examples of American Brilliant Cut Glass were hand-selected with some being pulled from my own collection of 30 years along with some from important collections from around the country.
