Description & Details
WOW! That's what you'll say when you come into this sprawling homestead that holds three generations worth of antiques, history and just unusual items.
Yes, it's in Dawsonville, but trust me, it's worth the drive. There's just so much at this sale.
Let's start with the family, which was very prominent in the Dawson County area.
What that gets you is so much history from Dawson and surrounding counties.
From books to maps to memorabilia, you'll find fascinating items throughout this home.
So let's look at some of the treasures available:
- Books. So many books. Some going back to the early 1800's. And many books about the North Georgia area, from gold and silver mining to the history of the area.
- So many war books. From the War for Independence to the Civil War, to the World Wars and more. There's also military items scattered throughout the home.
- Then there's the entire area of books written by this gentleman's grandfather, F. Van Wyck Mason. This man was prolific, writing dozens of books in the 1940s, 50s and 60s. He also did a number of magazine stories for leading magazines of the day.
- And even more exciting? We have 10 original paintings done for the cover art of his books by a renowned illustrator of the day, John Alan Maxwell. So Amazing!
- The father of the last man living at the home worked for the Forestry Service, so there are tons of maps and forestry information.
- And then there are just random maps, like the original plans for the Peachtree Creek Relief Sewer system in Atlanta.
- And the art in this home! Amazing. So many early hunting Lithos or engravings, including a huge 1830s Audubon print.
- Then there's the original art, including paintings by artists like John Hayes, Frank Henry Mason and W.E. Reece. At least 50 original paintings in the home.
- There's also a rare wood carving of Gambrell's Quail by master decoy carver A.M. Ponte. You won't believe the detail!
- Furniture includes an early sugar chest, early dressers, a North Wind desk and a giant oak roll top desk, a barrister bookcase, a bookshelf table, drop leaf tables, tilt top table, and more. There's even a wooden treasure chest (like real pirates used!) .
- Gorgeous china and glass by Limoges, Royal Bayreuth, Steuben, Orrefors, cut to clear glass, Flow Blue, Wedgwood, yellow ware and more.
- A whole shelf of old silver plate, including interesting butter dishes.
- There are vintage Kitchen items, including a wild, 1930's Wesson oil mayonnaise maker, a 1940s aluminum canister set and several Abercrombie and Fitch knives.
- Some men's clothing, a ton of large size socks and shoes (many new. Shoes size 13, socks 13-15) and a collection of early women's fur stoles and jackets. Plus a vintage purse collection.
- Then there are just interesting items, like a vintage circus poster, two non-running vehicles, including a rare Citroen car, a horse head inkwell and a U.S. Navy deck clock.
- There are collections of cats, horses, bells, artist carved wood bowls and more.
- A craft room with sewing notions, a Serger, silk flowers, etc.
- A washer and dryer, refrigerator, and other appliances and tools.
- And so much more. Plan to spend several hours here just to look at everything!
