Maxey Estate Sale
This is truly a picker’s estate sale – literally and figuratively!
**UPDATE****
Due to the potential bad weather we are only going to sell Saturday 1/15 and then next weekend 1/22 & 1/23.
We want to ensure everyone is safe.
Be sure to come see us....we are 25% off on Saturday 1/15.
Also all the wood, doors and windows are sold.
There's a few things I need to include regarding your safety
1) Masks - We are letting you use your own judgment on whether or not to wear a mask. We will have some available for you as well as hand sanitizer on the 'check out' tables so be sure to ask for one if you'd like.
2) Parking will be tricky. The driveway in front of the gallery and up to the house should only be used for the handicapped or for loading purchases. The grounds are soft from all of the rain and we do not want anyone getting stuck in the driveway or the yard. The side road can be used for parking as long as you stay parked on one side of the street. The people who live on "Oak Hill Rd" as well as the church do have another entrance they can be used and our neighbors at Dirt Town Deli said they would spread the word to the neighborhood that Oak Hill Rd would be very busy this coming weekend!!
3) There are MANY items located throughout the 9 acres of property. There are large stones/rocks in multiple locations (such as can be used for a fireplace or outdoor firepit and some are smaller, some are larger), there are stacks of red bricks, cast iron bathtub, metal tables, industrial racks, small cast iron pot belly stove, stacks of wood that are covered and several other things! There will be cut out trails throughout the property to these items (best we could do) but please know there will be briars and small limbs from trees that you'll need to maneuver through as you walk through the woods. There are some treasures there so please meander about. We just couldn't get everything pulled out and easily accessible. WEAR YOUR RAIN BOOTS and GLOVES if you plan to go on a treasure hunt. We will have the property marked off with some pink or orange ribbon showing where the border is next to the residence of where you should NOT be picking.
Rickey and June Wilson Maxey, well known self-taught Southern Folk Artists, have original works of art, pottery, handmade furniture, vintage and collectible glassware, mid-century art pottery and so much more! June grew up in Chattooga County in the 1950’s and thought Howard Finster’s Paradise Gardens was incredible. She was “…fascinated by such a magical place –all the wonderful colorful things...” She and Rickey borrowed some of his flare having many unique items themselves that are displayed inside and outside around the property. The gallery is jammed with small collectibles as well as 200+ original paintings by both June and Rickey. There's Hull pottery, UPCO, USA, McCOY, rocks/gemstones/agates/geodes, blue glass Ball jars, record albums, old metal /aluminum tins, iron tools, vintage cone shaped fire buckets, and several small treasures
Rickey built furniture from the nearly endless supply of lumber in the ‘pole barn’. There are 1000’s of boards including a variety of hardwoods (oak, cedar, walnut, etc), barnwood and pine.
There is a 1997 Ford F150 4 wheel drive (not currently running), John Deere tractor with bushhog attached, several other farm implements, Snapper riding lawnmowers (1 runs and we'll try to get a 2nd one running), vintage hay rakes, old tractor with no front wheels, moldboard plow w/3 pt hitch, wood working tools such as Sears Craftsman radial arm saw, Craftsman 12” band saw sander, Delta Milwaukee Jointer/edger, Delta Model 10 Contractor’s saw table, Central Machinery 16x8 automatic planer, Welder, OLD wooden doors and windows, industrial porcelain lights/globes, ghords galore, metal/tin roofing sheets, outdoor metal items, iron tools, vintage wrought iron and metal yard/porch furniture, etc.
There are also normal household items including refrigerator, chest freezer, vintage full-size brass/iron bed frame, wooden & iron king frame, vintage iron baby bed frame, twin wooden bed frame, Christmas items including a Snowman blow mold, old quilts, collectible dish sets (Anchor Hocking, Fire King and other china), TV’s, vintage canister sets, lamps and lamp shades, enamel ware, porcelain tabletops, a primitive storage/blanket chest made from wood from Trion Mills (Trion GA) that June's dad built in the 30's, a blue wide chest in the dining room that currently contains a LOT of Pfalzgraf dishes and it was built on the property by a traveling carpenter that actually lived with the Maxey grandparents & 9 kids for a short time in early 1900's and really just too much to list!
Be sure to bring your gloves, flash lights and rain/mud boots (just in case) You pick and purchase at your own risk. We are NOT responsible for accidents so BE CAREFUL!! Keep in mind there are treasures out along the property so you may have to walk through weeds/brush. There are also items in the pole barn scattered about all of the lumber so you may run into some insects or critters. We will do our best to remove as much as possible so you don’t have to but once you see the volume of "stuff" that is there, you will understand why we may not get to all of it.
You will also need to bring your own help for lifting/carrying items, your own boxes/bags/wrapping paper. There is a house, a gallery, a pole-barn w/storage room, a garage and a wood working shop. We will only have enough staff to work the sale, not to assist you lifting and carrying your items to your vehicle.
Be sure to check out your items thoroughly before paying for them because ALL SALES ARE FINAL!
There is SO MUCH TO SEE and we know you will enjoy digging! We can’t wait to see you!
