In 1916, after being devastated by the previous loss of two homes by fire, Mrs.Cyrus McCormick, widow of the inventor of the Reaper, moved to Lake Forest.There she commissioned well known architect, Dwight Perkins to build a fire proof dwelling in that beautiful city

The house, known as "the House in the Woods " resembles an early European Manor home and is brimming with history. Thanks to the  subsequent owners, the home has been meticulously maintained and lovingly preserved.
