Early 20th Century Abraham Lincoln bronze bookends with Abe's profile on one piece and the conclusion of his 2nd Inaugural Speech on the other piece. Cast in solid bronze with maker's mark of Griffoul Foundry of Newark, NJ. Both pieces are adorned with an olive branch and the Speech piece also displays The Lamp of Knowledge. Designed and signed by M. Peinlich, originally sold through B. Altman, New York. 6 1/2” tall, 3 1/2” long, 4” wide.

To the left of that is the arrow/oval logo with 1907, The bottom of the plaque reads ABRAHAM LINCOLN **1809 * 1865 **. Affixed to green marble with a bronze fully functioning easel marked S. KLABER & CO. / FOUNDERS N. Y. One of the most familiar pieces of art in U.S history with billions circulating every day in the form of the Lincoln Cent. This is probably from the first set of castings, being marked on the reverse with the Foundry name.

Group of Musical Instruments with Leaf Form Basket. Basket 4” tall, 24” long, 16” across, Length of each 22” and 21” long, tambourine is 8 1/2” diameter. These instruments were gifts to my client from the Hadza, or Hadzabe, who are a Tanzanian indigenous ethnic group mostly based in southwest Karatu District of Arusha Region. They live around Lake Eyasi in the central Rift Valley and in the neighboring Serengeti Plateau.

Hirsch was the rabbi of Sinai Congregation in Chicago from 1880 until his death in 1923, the organizer of the Associated Jewish Charities (of Chicago) in 1900, the founder and editor of the Reform Advocate in 1891, Professor of Rabbinical Philosophy and Literature at the University of Chicago, and was involved in numerous other charitable, ecumenical and academic endeavors. He died on January 7, 1923.
In 1922 the Associated Jewish Charities (of Chicago) and the Federated Jewish Charities (of Chicago) merged into the Jewish Charities of Chicago, which organization came into existence on January 1, 1923. The AJC had typically raised $1 million a year and the FJC had typically raised $250,000 a year. A Committee for $2,500,000 was launched on May 6, 1923, to raise funds for the Michael Reese Hospital, the Mount Sinai Hospital, and the Jewish People’s Institute, and the fund drive was dedicated to the memory of Dr. Hirsch. When the drive concluded on May 31, 1923, it had raised over $2,750,000.
