Tiffany & Co. Masterpiece. A circa 1890 showpiece of style, materials, workmanship, proportions and quality. In fifty years of appraising, restoring and collecting clocks of merit, I've never encountered anything comparable to this gilt-bronze and champleve stunner. The 18.5" high x 11.25" wide x 7.5" deep case exhibits elements of classical architecture as well as orientalist decorative motifs in two shades of enamel. Flawless fired enamel dial. 6.25" diameter bezel hinged from the top. Eight-day movement striking on a resonate coiled steel gong. Enamel enhanced two vial pendulum. Original throughout and very well maintained, with modest gilt wear at the domical top. Operating order - at buyer's request, the movement can be professionally serviced to ensure years of reliable operation. $4,850Sale PictureSale PictureSale PictureModel T1 Iconic Mid-Century Modern Secticon clock by Angelo Mangiarotti. Swiss Precision Portescap electro-mechanical movement. 9.25" high, 4.75" globular head. Fine original condition - professionally restored movement in perfect operating order. $975

NOTE: During the late 1950s acclaimed Italian architect and urban designer Angello Mangiarotti introduced the Secticon range of clocks. T1 is the first model. These clocks feature innovative molded plastic cases. Portescap movements with precision escapements were manufactured for the Secticon line by Le Porte-Echappement Universal (Universal Escapements Ltd). The Portescap movement is contained in a clear plastic housing. It utilizes a D-cell battery to drive a small electric motor, which runs continuously at about 1000 rpm. By an ingenious arrangement, this motor drives the escapement; a unique type of remontoire lever beating half seconds.
The clock will run for over a year before the battery is exhausted.Sale PictureSale PictureSale PictureRare circa 1820 Federal Period Southern States mahogany with satinwood border game table. Sale PictureSale PictureSale PictureSale PictureSale PictureSale PictureIconic 1970 Swiza Swiss MCM 8-Day Chrome Alarm Clock. Modernist example of better mechanical clocks produced just before the battery powered quartz-regulated era. The chrome plated ovoid case rests at a slight angle on a circular foot with satin brushed top. Sun-ray machined dial is distinguished by bold applied cylindrical markers at 12, 3, 6 & 9 o'clock. Black stick hour and minute hands with luminous tips protrude above the slender alarm hand.

The Swiza 8-day spring driven movement has seven jewels. Hands set at rear center, above the winding key. After the alarm is set for wake-up (or whatever!) time, the left knob is pulled out to activate.

NOTE: I fully disassembled the movement, ultrasonically cleaned and rinsed all elements, removed the mainspring from the barrel to clean and grease, checked for wear, reassembled and lubricated with high-grade Swiss oil. $220

Fine Operating Order. $615 Eight-day (vs. 30-hour running) cuckoos represent not more than 10% of total Black Forest production. Those with music box / turntable dancers are an even smaller subset.

Anton Schneider ranked among premier manufacturers active during the third and fourth quarters of the 20th century. Their carved cases, dials, hands and cuckoo birds are solely wood (vs. plastic and resin). Reuge is widely regarded as the best Swiss manufacturer of music boxes. The two tune 50-note box in this clock is far superior (acoustically and complexity) and more costly than generic music boxes installed in 30-hour cuckoos and most 8-day models.
I acquired this clock in original German shipping carton from a relative of the original owner. The Schneider cuckoo was purchased in Germany in 1992. Critical examination suggests the clock was little used.

Imhof along with Swiss competitors Angelus, Looping and Luxor manufactured the best quality post WWII jeweled lever alarm, desk and shelf clocks. The clock displays beautifully and holds accurate time, running a week on winding. Ceramics represented only a small portion of Secessionist household objects. Few unique Jugendstil art pottery pieces of particular merit survived 125 years.

The form of this thick-walled fruit bowl is unremarkable and the foot treatment rather awkward. However, all that is commonplace disappears on viewing cobalt blue, green, medium and pale brown enamel painted decoration. Bold "flaming beehives" spaced between cavetto triangles transcend eye-catching.

In fine condition, absent breaks, cracks or repairs. Chips at two foot terminals are aesthetically inconsequential. A qualified ceramics restorer would encounter little difficulty filling and inpainting losses.
