This Wilmette couple were adventurous travelers and collectors; they amassed an incredible collection of Asian art and antiquities, folk art, Americana, vintage advertising tins, Depression glass, designer clothes, jewelry, art books, and more.

- Antique Japanese wooden Daruma mold, Meiji Period, late 19th century—Durama dolls represent the priest Bodhidharma who brought Zen Buddhism to China, but in Japan, he became known as Daruma. Daruma, because of his single-mindedness was believed to fulfill wishes. A Daruma doll is shaped in such a way that it cannot be knocked over; he will always right himself because he never surrenders to despair.

The Victoria & Albert Museum in London has an example of the large Mao pendant in their collection. On the reverse, it says “Wishing Ten Thousand Years Without Ending to Chairman Mao”.
