Description & Details

Castles and Attics in Partnership with Ripley Auctions Presents the The Jane Bridgins Collection founding owner of Indianapolis's "The Accent Shop"

This is an Online Only Single Owner Auction on Hibid

Conceived and created at the start of the Mid Century period, this collection of aesthetic artifacts is available for purchase in this online only offering. Having worked together at the illustrious L.S.Ayres & Co. in the display department, Richard and Jane Bridgins met and married in 1956. In 1958 they decided to open what would become the iconic Accent Shop near Shortridge High School, thereafter moving to the Glendale Shopping Center. The store offered the best of Mid Century furnishings and accessories that were difficult to obtain in the more traditional climate of that time. Early enthusiasts of the style, they selected items for the shop and for themselves such as those featured here. Danish Modern design is best represented by the Georg Jensen sterling jewelry and flatware, the Dansk woodenware and metal items, and designer Saarinen-style tables and chairs. While Founders Furniture Company pieces include sofas, case pieces and coffee tables, the unmarked sideboard and miscellaneous chairs adhere to the basic aesthetic established by the couple. Modern abstract art by Reynaldo Paluzzi and his wife Claudine, and abstract collages are also available. Timeless too are the lines of the five Japanese Tansu chests and the Asian influenced Baker table and chairs. Traditional tastes are represented by the mahogany chests and tables, two sets of sterling flatware, a set of Portmeirion china, and the collection of antique dolls and Indianapolis postcards. Gold and exceptional sterling jewelry, shells, globes, and even a contemporary Swid Powell designed bowl-all united by the simple tenets of good taste-provide a fascinating compendium and a tempting array of highly desirable objects. This wonderful chance to acquire a part of Indianapolis history doesn’t often happen.
