About the Smith Auction
This listing comes from the estate of Larry Wayne Smith (December 9, 1935 – December 13, 2025) of Huntington, Indiana —.
Larry proudly served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War era
before beginning a long career connected to the railroad. He worked for the Erie
Lackawanna Railway, later for Conrail, and contributed to the testing of high-speed
trains at the Transportation Technology Center in Pueblo, Colorado. After his time on the
railway, Larry opened several “Station Haus” restaurants in Huntington, Columbia City, New
Haven, and Lebanon, as well as a truck stop in Rochester Indiana.
Known for his strong work ethic and an engineer’s mindset, Larry enjoyed fixing
things, sharing knowledge, and helping others whenever he could. Later in life,
he continued serving his community through work with the American Red Cross,
including Hurricane Katrina relief efforts.
Outside of work, Larry was an avid fan of Indiana University football and basketball,
faithfully following the Hoosiers for many years.
The items represented are more than collectibles — they are pieces connected
to a lifetime of work, interests, and experiences. This auction honors Larry’s
legacy and the passions that meant so much to him
