A WWII Royal Canadian Air Force and U.S. Army Air Force pilot and a coal company heiress, this glamorous couple collected over twenty hand knotted semi-antique Persian and Chinese rugs, many unique military collectibles, fine porcelain and art pottery items, an elegant set of sterling silver Martha Washington flatware, along with other sterling pieces, 1853 hand-woven woolen Ohio coverlets, a Wedgwood Jasperware dinnerware set, original signed oil paintings, Victorian beaded needlepoint textile and many more desirable items. Large Set of Watson "Martha Washington" Sterling Silver Flatware, 199.78 Ozt.: A set of Watson Martha Washington sterling silver flatware. The pattern features a ribbed border and floral accent to the handle end. Each piece is marked Sterling to the verso. The set includes two cake servers, three serving knives, two serving forks, 30 dinner knives, one butter knife, 40 dinner forks, 56 teaspoons, 12 olive forks, one pierced spoon, 8 large spoons, 33 salad forks, two large serving spoons, ten ice teaspoons, one spreading knife, one gravy ladle, eight grapefruit spoons, three large bowl teaspoons, one sterling-handled meat fork (different pattern), twelve teaspoons, three soup spoons, twelve butter knives and 12 soup spoons. The set includes two wooden storage boxes. An additional monogrammed sterling silver-handled carving set is included. The rug has a navy blue background populated with flowering trees and flying birds in shades of ecru, off white and medium blue. To the top of the field in a money in a flowering lotus tree, with a cloud formation to the upper right corner, the tree rising up from a rock formation. To the bottom of the rug’s field in a landscape with stag and rock formations. The rug has a major border with ecru medallions filled with blue flowers, alternating with traditional Chinese motifs and arabesque forms. The unsigned painting depicts two sailing boats on a placid river, under a cloud-filled blue sky, with a mountain range with snow-capped peaks to the right background, a flat shore with several trees to the right and sunlit dirt shoreline to the left, leading to a stone arch and Gothic tower on a hill overlooking the river. The boat to the foreground is moored on the shore, while the other is in midstream in the distance.
