FECIT PRESENTS: The Collection of Photographer AJ Meek - A.J. Meek was an internationally recognized photographer, educator, and founder of the fine art photography program at Louisiana State University. His photographic work has been widely exhibited and published. A.J. Meek was the author of several acclaimed photography books, including Sacred Light, Gardens of Louisiana, Gettysburg to Vicksburg, Clarence John Laughlin: Prophet Without Honor, and The Healing Presence.

This is THE sale you don’t want to miss - the collections in this home are PHENOMENAL - so much under one roof! There are hundreds of books - and not just any books! Photography books of which the majority are first editions in very fine condition, with a large number author signed and/or inscribed to AJ Meek from the author. There is a large collection of coffee table books perfect for your collection or to decorate those book shelves! There is a whole collection of civil war books as well as a Louisiana section. This is the largest and best library we have ever had!
This house is filled with stunning a private collection of original, signed photography and artwork by listed artists. This is the first time this extensive art collection has been offered to the public. Whether you are just starting your collection or adding to an existing collection - this is THE sale to get rare, first time offerings, and early art pieces from some fabulous artists!
A partial list of artists represented in this collection includes:
Harvey Harris – longtime LSU professor of art with more than two decades of influence, and a direct student of Thomas Hart Benton, one of the most important figures in American art.
Jerry Uelsmann – a true pioneer of modern photography, known for his surreal photomontages. His work is held in major museum collections including the Metropolitan Museum of Art and the Museum of Modern Art, and he was awarded a Guggenheim Fellowship.
Marion Hyde – longtime Utah State University professor and former department head, with decades of influence in printmaking and drawing. His work reflects a strong academic foundation and lasting impact in the field.
Andrew Miksys – internationally recognized photographer whose work has been exhibited worldwide and is held in major collections, including the Museum of Modern Art.
Richard Albright – best known for his remarkable Stonehenge series, created during a rare private nighttime access to the site. These dramatic black-and-white images are documented in his book Nocturne in Stone.
Charles Barbier – well-known Baton Rouge artist behind several major public works, including murals for the Walls Project and the Odell S. Williams African American Museum, along with other prominent local installations.
Chris Johns – former Editor-in-Chief of National Geographic and recipient of the Missouri Honor Medal for Distinguished Service in Journalism. His photography has been published and exhibited worldwide.
Adrian Van Suchtelen – influential Utah State University professor with a 37-year career teaching drawing, painting, and design, shaping generations of artists.
Michael Book – Guggenheim Fellowship recipient whose work has been exhibited internationally and is held in major collections including the Victoria and Albert Museum and the Cleveland Museum of Art.
Robert Fichter – widely exhibited photographer with over 40 exhibitions, including a major traveling show originating at the George Eastman Museum.
Alongside these notable names, the collection also includes work by Richard Wilder, John Huffaker, David Brotherson, Paul Burger, Jim Rice, Arnold Jason, David Zietz, Larry Lawson, John Spence Weir, R. T. Clark, Dean Dablow, Les Waller, Conrad Gleber, John Weiss, John Rich, and James A. Wells.
Also included in the sale is a 1970s Underground Comix Collection – Zap Comix & Associated Titles (16 Prints) - This is an original group of vintage underground comix from the early–mid 1970s, including multiple issues of Zap Comix (Nos. 0, 1, 2, 5, and 8) along with related titles such as Uneeda Comix, El Perfecto Comics, Screw Comix, and works featuring artists like Robert Crumb and Robert Williams. Published by Apex Novelties and Print Mint, these represent authentic examples of the San Francisco underground comix movement, known for its countercultural themes and influential graphic style.
There is a private collection of miniature buildings from all over the world including some pre-9/11 replicas of the Twin Towers.
