Yankee Estate Sales

There is 2 sales this weekend  this first sale is  on 16 Quaker Ln. the 2nd. sale is 10 Paula Ln. Cotuit.

We suspect that there is a little bit of a historian in each of us.  Regardless of our reasons for attending estate sales, one of the biggest allures is to see how someone else has lived.  This weekend's sale in East Harwich has an abundance of allure because of its history.  Circa 1740, the John Long House was re-sited to its current location in response to threat of being demolished.  Its 18thC structure, preserved architectural features and especially its historical connection to the Cape Cod Underground Railroad are all strong reasons for our "inner' historian to visit this weekend!  But what about the contents, you ask???  The most recent owner truly appreciated the home's merit in the Harwich historical timeline.  Efforts were continued to find appropriate pieces of furnishing as well as maintain structural elements.  But, somehow along her journey, the quest for cobalt glassware turned into a lifelong hobby...and its prevalence is the second most important reason to visit this sale!!!  It is all here in every shape & form...Read on, plan to stop by and DEFINITELY plan to go home with piece(s) of deep, blue art glass...there's enough for everyone!!!

COBALT GLASSWARE - Known as 'smalt' when ground as a pigment, cobalt oxide creates a deep blue color in a glass melt.  Interesting fact - cobalt glass was used for olive oil tasting because the blue color disguised the color of the oil thereby averting any bias (we love our pure, unblended California olive oil in a dark, green glass bottle...just saying!).  Collection includes - candlesticks, stemware, pitchers, Bohemian cut-to-clear, Bohemian gilt & enamel, Depression Era, cocktail shaker & martini glasses, reproduction oil lamp, blown molded, large ink bottle, vases, vases, vases & more, more, more!
