Savvy Downsizing & Estate Sales
Description & Details
Savvy is excited to announce this weekend’s estate sale in the Bannockburn neighborhood of Bethesda, featuring a remarkable collection that reflects a multigenerational interest in the visual arts, music, and the outdoors.
The art collection showcases the owner's extensive time abroad as a reporter, traveling throughout Latin America and the Caribbean. This experience cultivated an especially deep affection for the people and culture of the Andes and the Amazon, further enriched by his service in the first cohort of the Peace Corps in Costa Rica.
Items of interest include Southwest Native American bowls, with pieces from Acoma Pueblo, Edna Romero, and Taos Pueblo, alongside an eclectic selection of folk art and tribal masks. You'll also find a large collection of Native American rugs and other textiles, much of it from Peru and other parts of South America.
A collection of Southwest Native American jewelry is available, featuring a signed silver and turquoise squash blossom necklace, bracelets, and rings. Additionally, there are tribal necklaces, many adorned with beads of various colors and sizes.
The sale also boasts paintings, sculptures, and photography from the personal collection of a family member who served as the Art Director of Time-Life Books and LIFE International. This includes high-quality vintage black and white photography, with many pieces bearing original photojournalist stamps. A selection of photographic equipment is also available.
Explore a vast library spanning all four levels of the home, covering diverse subjects such as science, with a focus on hydrology, the environment, ecology, and conservation. There are also extensive book collections on Native Americans, Latin American culture and history, exploration, and the founding of America.
Music enthusiasts will appreciate an extensive collection of instruments, reflecting many years dedicated to playing Renaissance and Baroque music (recorders and crumhorns) and Irish music (tenor banjos, bodhrans, bagpipes, and flutes). Complementing these instruments is a substantial sheet music, record, and CD collection.
Rounding out the sale are collections reflecting the owner's profound love for the outdoors, encompassing backpacking, fishing, hunting, and birding.
This "sportsman's and hunting paradise" includes an extensive collection of vintage, painted wooden and metallic lures, vintage fishing reels, a variety of hunting and fishing knives, pocket-knives, and other fishing and archery equipment.
For those with an interest in natural history and artifacts, the sale also includes many fossils, rocks, geodes, and arrowheads.
