Description & Details

Considering the many items we have added to our showroom for this sale, we are fast becoming like a museum. The only difference is that our items are for sale. They also provide a free history lesson on where they came from plus how old they are. Imagine the U.S. in the 1920s. Cities had electricity, but many rural areas did not. You would have listened to Edison records on a crank-operated phonograph like the one we have for sale. You would have typed on a manual typewriter like the one we have for sale, perhaps sitting at the antique rolltop desk that we have. In the cities you could have used the 1911 electric sewing machine like the one we have for sale.

Of course, you could not fly to Brazil, but if you traveled there by boat, you probably would have purchased some pictures and jewelry made with iridescent butterfly wings. Just two decades later, you probably would have listened to programs on a radio, like the several reproduction radios we have for sale. You would have listened to the "Big Band" sounds as well as studio bands as pictured in the vintage photos we have. While in Italy, you probably would have bought a micromosaic brooch or bracelet like the ones we have for sale. Silver was not as expensive then, so many of you could afford at least one or two sterling pieces of flatware or a sterling silver brooch. We have just received a box of sterling items for sale, mostly flatware. We also have a box of scrap sterling items (bent, broken, or otherwise mutilated).

If you were an adventurer and could take several weeks off from work to travel, you may have gone to Nepal or China or India. You may have brought back objects with you on the boat or had them packed and shipped to you in the states. That is how some of the items we offer you now arrived here. Perhaps your grandparents did the traveling and buying. Then the items were passed down two generations and kept for years by people who decided they really didn't have the same interest in the items or were moving and downsizing. That's another way we at Items of value obtain items for resale.

Now moving up in time to the 2010s (that's a jump), you purchased DVDs and CDs with the idea that you had them for listening or viewing whenever you wanted to. Yet how many times did you actually watch the DVD or listen to a particular CD? So, we get many DVDs and CDs for resale. If you were an avid book reader, you need shelves to store books. That's how we got so many bookcases and display cases for sale. In fact, we now have quite a variety of bookcases, display cases, and storage containers for sale. Check out the styles and sizes we show in our photos for this sale. Take time to look at them and determine what you need.

Of particular note for this sale is the very large amount of jewelry we were just given, spanning already a century from the 1920s.We have posted photos of these. We will put out as much as we can and add more as we have space. Note that our asking prices for vintage pieces will be fair, but we do not do quantity discounting and the jewelry will not be discounted on Sunday. This is an incredible buying opportunity for jewelry collectors.

Look at the wood carvings and clay statues that we have. Two clay figures date back four centuries. Take time to examine the detail of the Chinese wood carvings. Look them up online to compare our prices with other sellers. Note as well the variety and age of the table lamps and floor lamps we offer. The more expensive ones are the Tiffany-style lamps, followed by the Waterford crystal ones, followed by an antique oil lamp on tall brass post (now electrified), the hanging chandelier.

Of the more expensive items, note the white marble urn with gilt mounts, the two Meissen statues, the 71" high standing bodhisatva. For the collector of African items, we just received a FINE vintage carved mask. It has a carved face colored dark, surrounded by treated textile with two tufts of animal hair inserted on the sides. You will find smaller African masks on the table as soon as you enter our showroom. From southeast Asia, we have a pair of wall hanging elephant columns, a piercecut metal box with inset carved mother-of-pearl scene, a few intricately worked copper repousse lidded containers. Many of the metal pieces are vintage from Nepal and very collectible. The Nepalese thangkas were acquired over 25 years ago. We have a variety of them, in good condition. So, come for a learning experience as well as a good time.
