For our next sale we have the rare privilege of working with someone who has had an immeasurable impact on his local community. We have the opportunity to help Tom Hunter in liquidating the last remaining treasures found at Hunter's Western Auto in downtown Allegan. This store was originally purchased by Tom's father, Ted Hunter, back in 1947 when Tom was just 2. Tom has spent unimaginable hours over the decades tending to the store, and eventually owning it himself.
As you step through the front door and hear the familiar ding of the bell you are surrounded by the incredible history that lives inside. The building originally housed a theatre around the turn of the 20th century (the original tin ceiling still remains). You also see the antique floor tiles from the Greek restaurant in the 1930s. The building now holds all the treasures from the past 75 years...local advertising pieces, hundreds of vintage Western Auto catalogs, New Old Stock hardware, toys, bicycle parts, tools, outdoor supplies, and so much more. There are vintage display cases and display racks. If you can imagine it being in an old hardware/supply store...it's in there! So please mark your calendars for these three days coming up at the end of February and come out to celebrate the legacy of Tom Hunter and Hunter's Western Auto.
(***Also, we are planning on having cupcakes here on Saturday morning to help celebrate Tom...so come on out and say hi, and let him know how much he has meant to you!)
