This house is a quad level with a garage, and it is jammed pack with the best variety of merchandise we’ve ever had! We will uncover more as we began our work there next week!
As you walk in the front door there is a bedroom on the right with a very nice West Michigan Furniture Co. Mid-Century bedroom suite (dresser, highboy, two twin beds, There is also an early 1900’s woven rug (?Karastan?) a vintage dresser lamp, a king size double sided quilt, Sorrento wall plaques, a pair of 1960’s Kids Detroit Lions varsity style Jackets (one had a Pass Punt & Kick patch on the arm), vintage boy scout uniform with patches and Order of the Eagle sash (1950’s or 60’s plus other scouting items), a vintage sword (called a Saroyan Scimitar) an ornate dagger, Just found an antique Muff Gun (small pocket gun 1700's - not in working condition) and a Daisy BB gun model #107. There is a large quantity of vintage linens; hand crocheted (including two beautiful table cloths) tatted, and embroidered. This will also be the room with some great vintage jewelry!! The sterling silver will either be in this room or next to the check out table. There is a service for 12 Royal Crest Sterling 2,817 grams, a set of sterling spoons 280 grams, and some sterling serving pieces!!
The bedroom on the other side of this floor is loaded with some very interesting pieces! A 1940’s Rudy Muck Trombone in the case(working serial # 22961) 1960’s Ferris State collectable academia, Collectable Big Rapids items, Vintage Camera’s and accessories, including Kodak, Polaroid & Argus, 1970’s Tudor NFL teams (for the Tudor football game), 1990’s boxes of Topps baseball cards, fishing lures, a Michigan Cigar tin, tons of art prints some signed and numbered,, a scrapbook with Antique advertisements (in sleeves), Antique postcards, Antique business cards, Bazooka Joe bubble gum comics indexed numerically, Antique pages of Easter seals, vintage Gerber baby pictures, vintage Big Rapids memorabilia, an Ink Proofing Kit (complete), and a pair of mined Logs out of the Muskegon River (just the ends) from the logging era in Big Rapids both with their loggers marks. There is a ton of WWI Era sheet music, including war songs, Black Americana, and big band hits, and many more pieces of sheet music.
Going up the stairs puts you into the kitchen family room area. There is a lifetime collection of books in the house, many of them are in the built in bookcase in the family room including Vaugns Shoemakers, 1939AD and a signed copy of 1943 & 44AD, military books. Also there is a vintage Ekornes stressless recliner with an ottoman, and an extra ottoman, and an Ekornes swing arm table for the recliner still in the box, as well as a pair of #2 crocks (one crown) and a #1 crown crock, an antique chair with a rush seat, a piece of Ralph Conklin Pottery (local Big Rapids artist) Weller pottery, as well as other hand crafted pottery, a 1940 Libretto Opera program, a 1950 Carmen Opera program, a large hand crafted brass urn (or umbrella stand) from the Ark, and another slightly smaller brass floor urn, a cool mid-Century single lamp on a pole, a table full of elegant stemware, including some crystal-1968 Snoopy camp glasses, and NFL glasses, a two piece Pine Shop ladies writing desk, a set of three mid-Century flying geese on the wall, a Sony stereo system with Bose speakers, and a turn table, a large number of vinyl records, (mostly classical but not all), Cd’s, a beautiful Pine Shop two piece ladies writing desk, and so much more!
In the kitchen is a wonderful Mid Century dinette set made by a Haywood Wakefield Co. called Lloyd Mfg. from Michigan. There is a monkey pod lazy susan, some vintage Pyrex including two large bowls, one red, and one yellow, vintage enamelware, a Donvier Ice Cream maker and a Huge amount of good useable kitchenware, (Including a set of Amway waterless cookware- lifetime warranty and many new kitchenware items!), tons of utensils and way more!
Walking out from the kitchen into the Dining room is a beautiful antique Seng table and chair set made Chicago, a Tripp Trapp Original Stokke Scandinavian High Chair in mint condition, and a gorgeous antique music cabinet, Victrola records, soda shop glass shelf spacers (in two sizes) , and a pressed glass Lazy Susan. The China table is in this room also with tons of beautiful tea cup & saucer sets, (also collectable trio sets) 1931 Wood Burslem England china, J & G Meakin C: 1912 china a 1987 Frankoma Yellow GOP elephant mug, Meissen Blue Onion condiment set, a Gerz stein, as well and more!
The Living Room has two 3 section Barrister bookcases; one Macey, and one Gunn (made in Grand Rapids MI), Sorrento inlaid wooden trays, and a HA Framburg & Co. cast iron Iowa Class USBB (made for military strategy), and wonderful Pine Shop coffee table with expandable sides, Pine Shop trays and picture frames. The glass table displays Green Depression glass (Jeannette Adam C: 1931-32) Cut glass, a gorgeous cut glass (green & cut) lazy-susan style server, a 1957 Waterford Lismore Hurricane candle holder, and more. You will also find a Stereo Viewer with cards and six of those cards are first battleship cards, yellow ware bowls, stoneware bowls, a pair of vintage brass Stiffel lamps, an antique rocker, 1930’s-40’s , a very nice sofa, end tables, and a swivel upholstered rocker.
There is an enclosed patio off the living room that will have items in it. Currently there is an antique White sewing machine base (perfect for a table), a pair of metal patio chairs, and a pair of metal ice cream parlor style chairs a unique drying rack, and outdoor chairs.
Up the stairs from the family room are two bedrooms and an office. The first bedroom to your right has a three piece bedroom suite, (The bed is a sleep number-with issues), there is a gorgeous antique wedding dress complete with vale, gloves garter & cake topper, shoes, clothing items an Antique English red wool blanket, a beautiful (Ekornes style) stressless rocker and ottoman (cream color), tons of ties for that craft project, and more! The middle bedroom has a twin bed, quite a few pieces of fabric, (including about 15 yards of very cool Mid-Century upholstery fabric, tons of cool baskets, a pair of rolling organizer carts, vintage West Point boy’s story books, and more! The end bedroom is the office and in this room is the wonderful antique spool cabinet. It came out of a Penny’s store and was under their counter so currently it has no top. There is a vintage John Deere thermometer, an antique jailer’s lock with key, sewing notions, Vintage Military Academy dress blues, antique nursing uniforms, (both white and white and blue stripes) complete with hats and aprons, antique UNSORTED buttons, some office furniture, a Bell & Howell slide projector, screen, and accessories, and so much more!
Down to the lowest level, the first room you come to you’ll see a great Old Farmhouse Pantry cabinet (painted white) An antique Ovenette complete in box, The first Wonder Horse (red-wooden) a 1960’s Hanson Bros. scale, an antique wooden crib, and white headboard, two antique Underwood typewriters, plus two more older typewriters, (with complete keys), a Commercial Century First Edition sheet music cabinet, full of .20 sheet music (this was used in a store... great advertising piece!), tons of other vintage sheet music, three trunks of which one is wicker, an antique crib, a sofa sleeper, an awesome Arts & Craft era desk from the old Freemont Hotel in Muskegon, some half lead type trays, a few really neat old flour bags from the long gone Voigt Milling Co. in Grand Rapids MI, as well as a couple vintage Purina Pig Chow bags! In this room also are two complete chair lifts, (for two sets of stairs). We may be moving these to a different location.
To the right is the tool room. There is a huge tool box full of the grandfather’s tools all well over 100 years old, some from Sweden, some Fuller, Stanley, Craftsman (about a dozen total) including a wood planes (wooden – 30” is the largest one) hand crank drills, brace drills and many more tools. This room also has a couple of very unique items. There is a bank (42 in all) of older safety deposit boxes complete with keys, and two large shelving units called Roller Deed Shelves from the old Mecosta county courthouse register of deeds office. There is a rather large closet storage space under the stairs in this room that has quite a bit of overstocked kitchen and other items.
The last room off the main room is a large family room. There is an awesome Chicago Trunk Works professional wardrobe trunk, an oak pedestal table and chairs from the 1880’s Mecosta County Court house, a Woolworth shopping basket rack with (I believe) 10 or 12 baskets, ) a large antique Chapman’s paper roller, and a smaller one (used in stores for wrapping paper), vintage toys like a Ford Hubley die cast tractor, vintage Fischer Price, Tootsie, Dinkie, Structo cars and trucks, a Porter Chemcraft Chemistry Lab, Ohio Art Cowboy & Cowgirl top, a tin windup NY Central train with tracks, and another HO train, 1960’s boxing magazines, a 1940’s Boy Scout Master’s hat in the box (mint condition), a treadle New Royal sewing machine with the belt, a free Westinghouse electric sewing machine (one of the first electric models), and two nice treadle sewing machine drawers! There is Christmas, books, vintage tins, an old Spiro Agnew cartoonized trash can, a large food dehydrator, tons of canning supplies, a regular pressure cooker, a monster pressure cooker, a unique roaster, books including some vintage children’s books, golden books a beautiful waterfall style Lane Cedar chest, a blanket chest, vintage games, candle making supplies, two large hanging macramé tables, and so much more!
And then there is the garage!! (Which will be accessible from the door off the dining room) At this time all of the architectural salvage from the 1880’s Mecosta Country Court house is there. There is wood trim with carved corbels, rail or ornate trim pieces, windows, trim, ornate molded red bricks, ornate molded red blocks and more! We also have a 1960’s Murray Western flyer tricycle with blue fins- in perfect condition, a scooter from the same era, five vintage Schwinn bikes; a ladies blue collegiate, a ladies green breeze, a men’s black Continental, a men’s red Varsity, and a men’s yellow Continental, a commercial lead type cart with lead type trays, a pair of milk cans, a wonderful 1886 (dated) school bell, tackle boxes, fishing poles (one nice cane pole) fish nets, garden implements, yard and garden products, golf clubs, lots of Michigan license plates starting from the 1960’s, quite a bit of misc. building supplies, Troy built rototiller (horse - with a new motor), yard carts, and more!
