Description & Details
Our collector Dick was a pack rat of wonderful things- there is so much here that I really don't know where to begin. This is a list of what we have thus far un-earthed. Old fishing tackle, traps, fishing gear, creels, loads of things that would work well in a camp or lodge. Fine porcelain and china, Spode dishes, antique amber glass ( like Barbra Streisand collects) the kitchen is LOADED- with usable kitchen goods as Dick also liked to cook. There is antique furniture, the walls are covered in all kinds of art. The mixing bowl collection is exceptional. There is costume jewelry. Transferware, pink lustre, ironstone, stoneware in general. There is a healthy collection of WW2 items to include a choice Luftwaffe dagger ( SS Nazi) and other Nazi items, plus a whole host of medals, pins and a collection of bayonets. Beautiful parian, two MacArthur composition dolls- several MUSEUM grade kachinas, several early and RARE Santo's figures plus a host of religious figures ( Dick collected religious with a bend toward Catholic figures and items) There are all kinds of lamps and lighting as well as piles of parts and pieces, plus shades & chimneys. There is a collection of lead soldiers. Another collection of figural glass covered dishes and did I mention the collection of antique fish decoys? Exceptional examples and Dick liked to know the makers so many he tracked down or bought with a note signifying the maker- truly a killer collection of early ice fishing decoys- they don't get much better than this selection. There are tools of all kinds, both antique and modern- all in working order. Cast iron fry pans, blue canning jars abound. All kinds of hand tools, shovels, rakes, funky stuff- that I don't know what it is- but its made out of steel with a wood handle- so trust me- I'll sell it. Do you need an old minnow bucket, vintage frames or bedding? Dick had trunks ( neat trunks) filled with goodies wrapped in blankets- if this were a sale in the winter everyone would get a free blanket- alas it's summer! There is a pile of toilet paper in boxes- so with every 20.00 purchase- you'll get a free roll of toilet paper! Whether you are a collector, fisherman, handy in the kitchen, like to tinker or are just looking for nice quality new and some exceptional old things- this is a keen sale you'll enjoy over the 4th of July weekend- and as Tim Allen says "Pure Michigan" it is a Pretty part of the world- See you on the 5th!
June 26th update- Unearthed today- several nice kerosene lamps, more art. A nice selection of toy soldiers, Victorian silver plate, a nice collection of Art Deco flower frogs, more religious items, more military, a few clocks- several Royal Doulton Tobies in two sizes. Antique post cards, holiday noise makers, some antique toys, mostly trucks- several John Deere tractors, box of hot wheels, child's twig chair, stereo viewer with cards, collection of contemporary red/white and blue ice fishing decoys- all patriotic. Wood cutwork shelves, sewing goods, doll house miniatures ( a lot of them vintage) Loads of dishes, pottery and stemware. Another update tomorrow. I forgot to mention there is a boat- I will list information on it tomorrow.
June 27th findings- the boat- it's a 1973 Starcraft. Appears to be sea-worthy. Dick has a piece of land outside of town- 115 acres ( that will be for sale) and within the 115 acres is your very own pond- it's actually a nice sized lake and we were told this boat was on that lake frequently. ( Dick stocked the pond)
We unearthed some Haviland china- I'll take pictures in the morning of the pattern. There were other fine china patterns discovered as well a set of silver plate flatware. More traps. More fishing tackle. Some art hidden in a closet. A nice pile of stereo cards- mostly hunting shots. Nice, cedar lined blanket chest. Solid oak arm chairs- ( court house style) Many more lamps- the good news- we have twelve tables out on the lawn and those tables are filling up as well. Did I mention that we moved the contents of a small house AND a pole shed into this house/yard/garage. It's still a little discovery trove daily.
July 4th update- Happy 4th of July. We are 99% priced in the house- and ZERO % priced in the garage ( good help is hard to find}- I and staff spent the better portion of the day whipping the garage into shape- you will find keen things in the garage- and some items are priced- but the bulk will be a fair offer-
Did I mention the books? When we came into this estate on Memorial Day Monday afternoon we were immediately overwhelmed with the amount of books- Dick and his wife are veracious readers, Dick thought of books as his friend and also the idea that one with many books is a one of wealth- ( think about that for a moment) so there is an incredible book collection- you'll see antique books at the sale- and there are some KILLER examples- the rest have been moved to a location five miles from the house- topics to include- History, military, hunting and fishing, decoys, western, political, nature, cooking, mysteries, many first editions, books and art and antiques, travel. Plus all current writers. Dick loved to read- and it was evident- but we could have never even attempted a sale here without removing the library. If you are at all interested- see the pretty cashier at the check out. There are 4-5 thousand books in storage.
There are 18 tables on the lawn- its a mixed bag of things- depends on what you are looking for-
The entrance to the sale is on the side porch and because of the size of the house- we may limit the amount of people in the house at one time. We ask that everyone play nice- there is plenty to go around for everyone. I have to confess- I have conducted 1600+ plus estate sales in my life- and maybe its the size of the house- but this estate is loaded with some gems. The ice fishing decoys are exceptional little pieces of American Folk Art at its finest- pay attention to the art in the house- and to some glassware, dishes and stoneware. There is also a nice selection of vintage Christmas upstairs. Don't miss the back porch with the lighting- there are some keen MCM lamps that are a great form- and like just about everything else- PRICED TO SELL.
Have a safe 4th and we'll see you 8 a.m. Thursday. Be Good.
* I will continue to add photos and content daily- Thanks for looking!
