Sunday 10-4
You will NOT want to miss this FANTASTIC Estate Sale in one of Detroit’s most prestigious neighborhoods, the Arden Park-East Boston Historic District, once home to some of the area’s wealthiest auto and retail magnates. One of the Kresge heirs was the first to own this home, most recently owned and occupied by the late Rev. Robert Penn Rubyan and Mrs. Arsha Louise Rubyan, still living. The house features four floors of outstanding antiques and collectibles displayed amongst such unique architectural elements as foyers and fireplaces constructed with magnificent Pewabic pottery tiles.
Besides some original Kresge family items, the culturally diverse, educated, and very artistic Rubyan family amassed an extensive collection of books, including early religious texts, Armenian books from the 1800’s, lots of Bibles, tons of art books, art works of all kinds, such as prints, woodcuts, framed portrait of Mrs. Cass, pottery, ceramics, as well as original art by the talented "lady of the house". Numerous musical instruments, including two pianos, one a Kimball grand piano, large collection of piano rolls, a Harmony blond guitar, drums, SILVER FLUTE, wooden flutes, Hohner accordion, and more. In addition to a marvelous old Stickley sideboard and magazine rack, there are numerous pieces of antique furniture representing an eclectic collection of a variety of styles. There are several four-drawer antique oak file cabinets, huge carved tiger oak cabinet, curved glass oak china cabinet, antique drop front secretary, large antique dining room table/chairs with matching buffet, two metal Queen Anne style dental/doctor cabinets as well as a matching table, beautiful beds, dressers, dressing tables, antique slag glass lamp with original Kresge label, church pew, chairs, chests, lamps, carpets, etc. Some collectible items of interest include post cards, antique hardware, Stickley era hammered fireplace tools, andirons, jewelry, including cameos, cultured pearls, ruby/diamond ring, silver, and more. Hundreds of silver age comics, sea glass, elegant glassware, a ton of silver plate and silver flatware and serving pieces, china, collection of restaurant china, in fact a whole Butler’s pantry filled with glass and china pieces! In addition to her collection of art, Mrs. Rubyan was an artist (and art teacher) in her own right, and there are lots of artist supplies available for the emerging artist. Vintage clothing, textiles, tapestries, fabric, sewing supplies, sewing machine, hats and accessories, vintage Christmas, some folk art items, primitives, artifacts, oriental items, fountain pens, pocket knives, and old bottles round out some of the treasures you will find in what is the finest estate sale we have conducted. Please view the pictures because there is way too much to list.
Due to the size of the home and the numerous items, we will be conducting the sale with extra personnel, some “secret shoppers” and some variation to our usual policies. We are NOT passing out our own numbers! We are also only accepting cash or credit card payments, NO CHECKS!
Although we encourage you to bring EMPTY boxes, we must insist that no handbags or bags of any kind be brought into the sale.
Please be respectful to the home and its contents (The son of the owner will be there during our sale with his mothers church friends to help out. It is also too large for us to clean at the end of the day!
Thanks and we hope to see you there!
