Cash only. Checks on Michigan banks accepted with ID for purchases totalling more than $500. No credit cards. No large bags or purses, please. No early sales, so please do not visit the site before the sale. Items in the photos are not guaranteed to be in the sale but it is very likely that they will be. More photos will be posted during the week as items are discovered in this large studio space. Limited packing material (newspaper, cardboard and old boxes) will be available until they run out. Please bring cardboard since much of the art is on paper and is not framed. Prices on Sunday are firm (but low) and will be reduced ONLY on Monday morning for the final clear out. Larger items must be picked up by Monday the 29th by noon. No restroom available the day of the sale. Plenty of easy street parking in front of the building on Caniff Street in Hamtramck.

We are selling a 30 year collection of better modern art, contemporary art, folk art, design, African American art, and art books. Hundreds of pieces from the collection of a former Chicagoan have been stored in a studio space (climate controlled) in Hamtramck, Michigan for several years. The owner needs to move out by the end of September and has decided to sell everything. Almost every artwork is by well-known, listed artists. Mostly American art dating from the late 1880s to the 1980s. Some European art. Several drawings, paintings and prints by artists who worked on the WPA programs in the 1930s and 1940s.  Lots of cool Folk and Outsider artworks. Vintage posters including two London Underground posters from the 1930s. Vintage photographs from the 1920s – 1970s. Some fun thrift store paintings. Two huge oils by listed Chicago Abstract Expressionist. At least 20 pieces by listed African American artists. Hundreds (maybe thousands) of better books on art and design. Hundreds of auction catalogs. 1950s Hammond M3 organ. Large type-setter’s multi-drawer wooden cabinet used as flat file.Furniture including two early Breuer tubular chrome pieces with provenance. Herman Miller round table. Knoll coffee table. Cool 1940s “cowboy” maple bedroom set. We are still finding pieces in the hundreds of boxes and flat files.  Some artists include: Bearden, Catlett, Bob Stanley, Nelson Stevens, Clarence Carter, Gothard, Martin, William E. Scott, Lutes, Yaeger, Borg, Major, Gehr, McCannon, Clark, Wolff, Walker, Schofield, Sengstacke, Corazzo, and hundreds more. Abstract photographs and photograms from the Chicago Bauhaus (by students and teachers associated with Moholy-Nagy). Some old master prints. 60s and 70s exhibition posters. Studio pottery. Vintage picture frames. A few nice African Art objects. WWII posters. Art deco figurines and other decorative objects. Lots of great items priced to sell.
